i see many posts in the topic "what are you wearing". so my question: soon is christmas and i'm looking for a new watch. think an automatic-watch is something very special. but there are nice watches with quartz too. for example very cool ones from NIXON (www.nixonnow.com). what are u wearing? what are u lookin for? are here some experts for watches?
    thanks guys...

    what type of watch

Well, i don't consider myself as a specialist but i do work with watches and know a little about them.

The choice between automatic and quarts is maybe difficult: automatic is more "special" but quartz is more accurate and needs less service.
Nice "inbetween" is Seiko's Kinetic. It's the best of both worlds: an automatic part to create current and a quartz movement to show the right time. Very accurate and no service needed.

I myself like a real "Brand",not a (well-known)fashionbrand that just invents models(like fashion) but a factory that really designs, builds and sells their products.
It all depends what amount of money you want to spend ofcourse.

Where do you work with watches than stiewie??

I got an beautifull Guess watch, and I think it is the best watch in the world when it comes to quality I got it 3 years now and it never had any problems! When I bought it 3 years ago I didn't even know Guess was a clothing brand so I don't see it so.

I am a big fan of Citizen.....not so much for the style but for quality at a low price. I've had my titanium Citizen for 15.5 years now and never had any problems....just change of battery a few times. I hope it never breaks because I won't be able to find spare parts and it has become very sentimental to me now.

I bought a fashion watch once and it only lasted 6 months, then a piece on the face fell off. Now I stay away from fashion brand watches. Seiko and Citizen are two proven good watch brands. Swatch is also good quality.

I got a Poljot Chronograph about 5 years ago, it has a 3133 movement which is the same movement as older rolex models. After wwII the russians were given swiss watch machines to help rebuild their economy. I think mine is a 25 jewel with a simulated saphire crystal face. I've worn it doing construction the last 3 years and only have 1 scratch. It's bullet proof. The only draw back is it's just water resistant. I had a person with a $10,000 IWC watch give me compliments on it... haha... they have 100's of styles and they only make 999 of each style and each are numbered... You can find em on ebay realitively cheap.

Just gotta remind people here that most watches are made by the big four, Swatch alone has something like 23 different brands under it's umberlla.

Nixon watches are great these days, especially since they got their act together and have decent manufacturers now, i still have an old full nelson around somewhere... i dont think they make em anymore, which is a good thing :D

The old fella has a fair amount of watches, but christ his friends (mostly Yanks) have ridiculous collections...we're talking individual watches that are worth houses...

I myself wear one of my old man's cartiers... i'm not really a watch person so i just grabbed something that looked good, and i think he prefered to keep it in the family rather than sell it anyway.

I have a Nixon that no longer works (I've had it at least 6 years, maybe longer), I also wear a Swatch for everyday wear and I have an Oris full steel chronometer, which is built like a tank, and I love it!

Oris watches are really nice, they're all automatic and (for automatic watches) they're really reasonably priced. And you don't really see that many of them around.

    Re: what type of watch

Guess makes indeed very nice watches. It's not a real manufacturer but it designes very fashionable models from good quality.
Nowadays the models with wide leather straps(like in the seventies) are in fashion but also the "blink-blink"models with strass.

I myself like Rado a lot. They are made of very hi-tech scratchproof ceramics with a dark high-gloss look.
Like to have one,one day .

it's a automatic diver watch. think it's a timeless (funny word for a watch!!) design. and the quality must be fantastic some experts told me.

That Marcello is a classic design. Looks just like the Rolex Submariner. Has been a beautiful and sophisticated watch for over fifty years.......

bill, you know the nettuno? and yes, i know, the design is from the submariner. but thats not my intention to 'simulate' the rolex. i just like the design. and the price for the quality must be very good as my dealer said. the diesel is quite cool but i think the nettuno i still will wear in 15 years...
now, you could say it's a bit "oldfashioned" because i'm 27. but i don't think so.
