Thanks b_F, just read through the IH thread... Sometimes I think Lando is more of an IH fanboy than Giles himself, he knocks those Kojimas right from his first post. If I remember correctly he also made some weird remarks about Samurai in the respective IHF thread. Anyway, he seems cool otherwise.

Well, aren't all regular posters on the IH-forum Ironheart fanboys ;-)
Yeah they tend to kinda look down onto all the other brands (and that's what annoys me most).

I remember Edmond also bought 1 or 2 pairs but I think just for a friend. "Of course" you can expect them to be worse made than the other heavy weight brands but well...you are only pay half the price (if not less).

That's one of the reasons I do not post there anymore. Some guys don't get, that keeping a certain distance to things is never wrong. The IHF has something religious I really don't like, although I like many aspects of the brand. in fact, this behaviour made me lose a good amount of love for the brand as whole. But I'm being replaced by hordes of skinny indonesian disciples, so it's paid of econimcally.

That's my denim rant for today.

I think you pretty much nailed it. That's exactly how I feel (although in my case, I never really got into IH because I don't think any of their stuff would fit me right.) I think they make great stuff but the cultlike devotion they seem to inspire is kinda weird. IH has really struck a chord with the overseas denim community, I don't think they're nearly as popular domestically and their stuff is a whole lot more expensive outside Japan.

I'm still trying to figure out how there's such a strong denim community in a place that's boiling hot and humid most of the year. I'm amazed anyone there can wear jeans without drowning in their own sweat.

^exactly my thoughts. I guess that's dedication and maybe a better tolerance towards high temperatures.

Cold Summer: what would you say is the most popular brand amongst those Amekaji dudes in Japan? I think you mentioned Tedman's over on SuFu and how you hated them, haha. From what I see on the interwebs, it seems to me that most Japanese denim enthusiast are into that loud and kitschy stuff like Suikyo and Go-Coo... BTW denim quality on Tedman's looks decent enough, I wonder who makes their jeans...

Oh yeah they are loud :-D

Maybe this is why also Evisu is a pretty crazy brand with the big kamone and all. Would really like to know if Evisu is still big in Japan (I assume they were big as they kinda started all)

I'd say that the stricter repro brands like Warehouse, Denime, and Fullcount are the most popular - ones that don't really interest me as much. It's actually quite hard to say because my Japanese friends don't share my denim hobby, aside from shop employees at the two stores I visit in my area. It seems that generally speaking, it's guys who are a little older than me who are into this stuff. Most dudes my age (early twenties) are still into the whole androgynous teased hair girly-boy look that's so popular here.

I do see Evisu pretty often, though I think the type of people who wear Evisu in Japan and the type who wear the stuff we like are very different. And I'm sure Tedman's stuff is fine quality, I just think it looks ridiculous.

People between 30s-40s are the target that most of jeans brands are aiming for (in Japan) because that's the age group that pay a lot for a pair of jeans without hesitation.

    Yuck!

That's what I though Naoto - but the trendy stuff young guys wear in magazines like Joker, Men's Non-No, etc. is just as expensive - and probably not as durable or well-made.

Sadly many Japanese are not good at taking the initiative, especially in fashion. They wouldn't give a monkey's asshole about quality nor durability - it looks as though "oh, that actor wears that brand's, so do I" or "my classmate that sits next to me changed his hair style yesterday, so I'll copy his"..... you know? It's pathetic, but what can I (or we) do?

When I went back to Japan last time I tended to buy a down jacket like Moncler, but I was gobsmacked by seeing that most of youths were wearing the same shiney-textured (Moncler or not) down jacket in Tokyo Disney Sea. That was such a awful scene (of course I didn't buy any down jackets - I went for Toys McCoy's N-1 instead).

Wow i knew the japanese were slaves to fashion but that sounds bad. I like being the only one who dresses like i do around me.

Has anyone ever seen or handled the denim from leather company kawatako?

I just came back from Tokyo and bought a pair of Two Moon-jeans there, a brand I've not heard of here. The indigo on these is super dark and the denim feels super dense and has a lot of character. I found this info on the OT&Emotional Rakuten-page:
