Hey, hope you're all doin well.

I just bought a pair of Grim Tim Worn in Broken and I love em. I went for a 33 waist which is just right. Any tighter and it would be too tight around the waist. I don't need a belt with these at all! Legs and calves are just right. Will these shrink too much in the wash?

I'd like to buy a second pair of dry Grim Tim. But I think that this style is definitely supposed to shrink after a wash? So should I size up to 34 waist?

Other info: I've worn 33 waist Thin Finn Ecru Embo and dry twill in the past and when washed they shrank a little too much and I cant wear em really any more. That's why I changed fit - I find the Grim Tim a bit more roomy.

So should I size up to 34 GT and then wash them to expect them to shrink to the perfect fit? Confused!! Any advice would be most welcome.

To be honest, based on unsanforised Levi 501s, Grim Tim dry ring (sanforised) and other nudies (pre-washed), I've yet to note any shrinkage other than in length that didn't stretch out again with wear. I suppose it does depend on how much you wash your jeans. If you wash them weekly, you're going to spend proportionally more time wearing them in a relatively shrunken size than if you wash them only when you've worn them for several months.

I have a theory I haven't tested that jeans washed regulary seem to shrink progressively MORE with washing as they age, so old jeans that have seen a lot of water can feel quite tight when worn straight after a wash, but they always seem to fit the same once they've stretched out.

Unfortunately this seems to conflict with your experience with the Thin Finn Ecru Embo :( What happened?

    Thanks for the reply!

My last pair of Thin Finn Ecru Embos had a 33 waist and when I got them they were a perfect fit. I liked that they were very slim (no creasing around the knee) without being super skinny ball busters. After just one wash on 30 degrees they shrunk just enough that they were too tight all over and not comfortable. I wore them a bit but they never stretched back out. I had the same issue with Thin Finn Dry Twill - although there was a little bit more stretch back on these ones so still somewhat usable.

I've now bought a pair of Grim Tim pre washed (great price!). Same again, 33 waist. They definitely stretched a fair bit after a few hours wear, more so than any of the other Nudies I've had (a lot!). They feel more roomy than Finns. I think I can wash these things without ruining them for me (like the material will stretch back out if they do shrink a little).

I might buy a pair of GT dry with 33 waist too, and stick with that cut if all goes well after I wash the first pair. Fingers crossed!

Grim Tim seem to be a better fit for me overall (I'm fairly average build, not fat not skinny :).
