Yeah, Sams aren't the slimmest jeans. That being said, the slubby nature of their denim doesn't lend itself to being comfortable and tight. The SV5000 cut and S0500 have really forgiving top blocks, so you can size down on them for a 'slimmer' look (unlike the S510 - Do Not size down on this cut if you can help it. It's a repro cut designed to be worn loose).

Not to familiar with the 610. Was curious about them when they first came out, but was scared away by that tiny rise. I'm the kind of guy that thinks the rise on the SV5000 is too short.

Thanks for the praise, IIIrd Icon. There were great times in the past. That being said, there are more jeans now and far more variety than ever before. More new brands, new niche brands (Tender et al), new revamped brands (Joe McCoy, Yay!), and some brands that are just evolving (Ande Whall). Do not mourn for the past. Premium denim is getting better and better, I reckon.

Actually, as far as I remember, the last time I asked, it wasnt really answered unanimously.
Someone said 710 (I guess it was you, tilmann) and someone else said 5000?

they are reliable. but communication is slow and they won't measure the jeans (ok one time they did for me).
the will refer you to the measuring chart. you know what that means ;-)
but as you are in for a Ltd. edition, just ask some guys who already owns one.

you can ask beatle or some other on Sufu. as the pair is already available they could you provide the actual measurements ans stretching-abbilities

@indigo_junkie, i'm not at all sad about the sweeping progress__ just nostalgic.:)

you might be able to size down, but they're not a slim cut. i thought you're looking for slim.

710s are, if you don't mind the smidgen higher rise & heavier weight than the 500s. they are slim+tapered & fits like a glove when sized right... or wrong, depending on one's expectation. tho' quite a ball-buster when raw, even @TTS. can't imagine how kids SOD on them. however, after they've gone through the washer a couple of times, they're the best slim-fitting heavy weight one can ever have, imo.

You can size down one on the S5000 cut. It's been proven time and again that it works. I sized down two on the S0500 (not recommended but I've done it successfully and so has numerous others on sufu. You really have to know what you're doing though, in terms of knowledge of your own dimensions, otherwise SD1). TTS for 710 esp. with the 19oz.

I'm loving Samurai's idea for the Elemental models. Scarily expensive (man, I thought 25,000 yen was pricey) and there are 5 of them in limited nos. The thing is, while I like the S5000 cut, I don't like it enough to own it on 5 pairs of jeans (with subtle differences, of course). At least I know how it'd fit.

^agree. sizing down on a 5000 cut in a vx denim is warranted cuz the denim gets stretchy/pliable once they soften up. but, on the new models they are running using new production/untested denim, you need to research before fcuking with sizing.

good thing on the 5000ai-10sp i went TTS or else i would've been screwed. took me awhile to get them comfy enough__ it just did not have much give after shrinkage.

You really have to be a big, big, big Samurai fan to buy all of those models. And a lot of money does also help :p
To be honest I'm not a big fan of those. I'm also not a big fan of massive messing with the weft. It's interesting indeed but I like it more traditional.
But still I'm curious how the last one "Void" will turn out

@ dj: my true waistsize is 35 an I wear a 33 in most denim (skulls5010, fh1005, slim jims). I am able to fit into my size 31 s5000bk (after a soak), which is definately slim fit like but without a taper...

The 19oz on the 710, and the super slubby 15oz on the S0500 are really forgiving as well with stretch (granted the VX does stretch the most). I couldn't justify buying the 10sp. So very close to pulling the trigger, but that's Jomon level money, and at the time I was saving up to buy a suit.

So, if I wear 31 in AJDS, should I go for 30 on the 5000? I gather all 5000 have the same cut? Even the earth limited version?

I wear a 32 in ajds and as you know the 5000bk in 31, so you should be fine with a 30...
