I can't stand the way my clothes smell after being around a smoker, and my friends teeth are discusting looking from smoking. But even if you don't quit at least don't smoke around the new baby.

i pop the nicorette pill to quit, but that shit costs like $25 a box for 24tablets.
it took me a full 6 months to quit completely, 3 for physical effects and 6 for the mental state. fyi i averaged 2 days a pack for about 2years.

nicorette is a scam, if you're gonna quit, go cold turkey. nicotine substitution is the easiest way to a fullblown nicotine addiction :p

Okay, one week of cold turkey and I'm doing well. I'll hop on board. I almost lit up today...my dog peed all over my bed...wow, I was so angry. I had to leave the house, or else I would have spanked the heck out of him

Feels good to quit. I hated being a smoker again. Most smokers are like crackheads. They don't really give a shit about anything except cigarettes.

I only smoke a few cigarettes when I have some drinks. Less than 20 a week so I don't feel very addicted. I used to smoke more in the past. I think you have to switch to another addiction... sport! endorphines are much more powerful than nicotine! and free and healthy

I think social smoking, aka smoking when you drink, is very different than smoking all the time. In the full scheme of things it might not be good for you, but hey, who really cares, in my mind, it's ok to smoke when ur at a bar or party and drinks are involved.
I have always enjoy a smoke every once and a while, but I have come to really enjoy cigars when I am drinkin some jameson at one of our favorite bars.

i thought it was purty interesting to listen to what all of those other peeps were sayin about addiction "all being in your head". thats pretty easy to say but its not as easy to prove. the only reason im acting like i know this is because we talked about it in my biological psychology class the other day...

nicotine by itself really isnt that addictive... its the other crap they put in cigarettes that acts as a multiplier and get people hooked on it... i wont play Einstein any more because i dont want to rant.

good luck house and i hope you keep up the good work... not all parents act as responsibly as you are...

    kudos to you too jyoni...

i only smoke handrolled cigarettes nowadays, which i kinda feel don't even count as real cigarettes- which is complete horseshit, i know  they are a lot milder with a lot less chemical overtone, not to mention somewhat cheaper, and i get to tote around a nice leather tobacco pouch (raw goat), but i've noticed i'm smoking a lot more nowadays, probably around 60-70g/week usually, which works out at around 130 cigarettes a week. that's a lot, but it proabably sounds much worse than it is, since rollies are smaller and the tobacco i smoke is much less harsh than normal cigarettes.

i'll definitely be making a fist of quitting as soon as these last essays are finished, can't start schoolteaching next year with that kind of monkey on my back.

@ jyoni- glad to see you're playing cold turkey, it really is the most effective way to quit- none of this pvssyfooting* about with replacement therapy :-D best of luck mate, and hang in there!

@ bullflag- a pack a week is no serious addiction

@ lemmy- i already exercise a lot, any other substitutes you can think of? all i can think of is maybe jesus, and i'm not ready to hit that path just yet

    * can you believe autocensor pulled me up for saying pvssyfooting? funny thing is, it doesn't seem to mind so much when i say cunt

Thanks guys! kchuk, you're spot on about the additives. We Americans have kind of a twisted view of cigs, because ours are so horrific. U.S. tobacco companies spike them with hundreds of different chemicals, including Ammonia to vaporize/freebase the nicotine; and sugars which, when burned, release compounds that penetrate the deepest tissues of the lungs. You don't really see that crap from other countries' cigarette producers. It's hard to look at the smoking habits of others in the same light as ours. Sure, nicotine is nicotine, but here in the U.S., it's a particularly pathetic oil-burner habit.

i used to smoke this before. a bit pricey but tasty. sweet banana kinda taste and it sparks while you smoke it. marlboro red and light were my favorite CGs. i used to smoke 3 packs a week back in the day, but since 2004, i quit smoking and never gone back to it n'more. feeling much much better. it was easy to quit IMO, at least for me. find other hobbies or activities instead of sitting and inhaling smokes.

some say the best way to not going back to cigarettes is to not hangout too much with smokers. i dunno if that's true or not, but ive got many friends who still smoke and i never felt interested in going back to the smoking world.

9oz redseal....these days i only smoke rolling tobacco, 'cold and within ya'...........golden virginia........i only smoke anywhere from 5 to 20 roll ups a day, depending on how stressed i am........going cold turkey is the best way to give up imo. and i agree hanging around with other smokers will certainly encourage smoking, if not inhaling 2nd hand passive smoke. i think once you've experienced worse evils than smoking cigarettes, giving up is a walk in the park....

I started smoking at the age of 13 ('cos it was cool) and quit after 10 years, I usually smoked about 20-30 cigs pr day.. the reason I quit smoking was actually because it did just taste freaking horrible one day, I do however smoke when I'm on a binge, but the weird thing is that I do not crave the cigs the next day when I'm sober, so I guess it's mostly just in your head right? anyhow.. have not read the whole thread, so I do not know how this turned out for you, but I'd say the same thing as many others here, just go cold turkey (or whatever the saying is, not that good at the american language)
