I would suggest trying a different cut. While it is possible to achieve a slimmer fit by sizing down on stf's, they are meant to be a fuller cut jean. I'm not too familiar with Levi's cuts but I'm sure they offer something slimmer. As far as shrinkage goes, you've probably got most of it out of the way with that hot soak. You may get a little more through further washing, but it doesn't sound like it's going to be enough to give you the fit your after. I've always went tts to get a more fitted look with stf's. Sizing down isn't a good idea if you plan on washing them frequently (imo).

Does anybody know a reliable place where you can still pick up Verdes?

Can't say anything about the reputation of this vendor, but they do offer the desired Verde's in a quantity of sizes, and at an acceptable price. I wish I could answer your question about the difference....I own a pair of Verdes, but they reside, for a year now, in the US, since no courier has been found to take them over, and a parcel would be unproportional cost-wise and invite customs issues. When the day comes that I can try mine on, I'll happily share my impressions here. On the pics of levi.com, they did not look all that green at all, it appeared much more like a subtle hue within the usual jeans-blue.

So I was at the "Downtown Locker Room" in the mall yesterday, and noticed they had a few shades of 501 shrink-to-fit that weren't on Levi's website.

One of which was "blue-green rigid" which I picked up.. looks a lot like Verde but with grey stitching.

Does anybody know the deal with these weird colors? Another one was light blue. Hadn't seen them before on Levi's website. Whats the deal?

Greatest way of doing the actual shrink-to-fitting! The good old bathtub ritual. Hope you didn't make the mistake of wearing underwear, not only same phenomenon as sitting on white, but it delays the drying and does not feel good at all at the most sensitive spots....*grin*

    Happy wearing in!

gotten on this pescetarian diet and have gone down almost three waist sizes! HA! next purchase is either gonna be 33 or 34 waist which i think i am now and keep the 38 length. best advice easy is to get true to size waist but defianely pay attention to the inseam shrinkage suggestions.

I was wondering what people's experiences had been buying these below normal waist size and then not washing. I'm a 31 or 32 and I want to try a 30 and wear em for 3-6 month before washing. (I'm sure this has been posted before, but I couldn't find it in this expansive thread) Any advice would be great!

thanks for your reply JJ... after giving it some thought, i will have a go on a sd, with no washing\soaking for 3\4 months and then, dry on body to prevent waist shrinkage!

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I just ordered a 1922 501 LVC 34x34 (my real size is 34x32) and i was wondering how i should go about shrinking them. I want to try and avoid as much fading as possible...any advice?

I thought this thread would be an appropriate place to ask, as my searching always brings me back here. I also posted in the misc. question thread, if anyone cares lol

biggaboo, why you want to avoid fading?

that's the most important and interesting part in the dry denim thing... fading them!

I've bought these 501 STF in NY 2 years ago. I have been wearing them on & off, but never washed them. They are W33/L36. They are too long and have stretched too wide. I am thinking about washing them, because i don't really like the crisp blue look. More of a faded/worn jeans lover. What do you guys think?

Tomorrow i'm going on a canoeing trip with some buddies. I think i let fate decide. The same trip had me wash my Nudie Greycast after 12 months of wear as me and a buddy were tipped over. If nothing happens i'll wear them for another 6 months.

hmm, doesn't show much fading, but STFs are not easy to fade. I wonder if that changed, because I know some guys whose love for the STFs made them explore japanese and selvage denim.

And here the after wash pictures. 501's aren't the trendiest jeans, but still i think every denim fanatic should at least have worn one to pieces in their lifetime and/or own one or more.
