What are your guys opinion of the Levis 501 shrink to fit? I found some at a cheap store for abour $30. They're not the best looking jeans but could be fun to experiment with.

I thought they were a little baggy.....wish they had a slimmer fit.

How much to they shrink? Are they easy to modify?

    How do they fade?

The Levi's shrink to fit 501xx is my favorite jeans. Unfortunately they are only available in the USA. I prefer also the USA made ones (not the Mexican, Guatemalian or whatever).
I wear it rigid and unwashed for also half a year and then take a swim in the sea or get a bath with my 501 and let it dry on my body.
They shrink a little and get a perfect fit.
It is important to buy it new bigger than your owns size. They can shrink 2 sizes in the W and up to 4 in the length.
I got one 501xx bought it 10 years ago, totally worn out, I have sewn a lot of patches on it and still wear it very often.
And just yesterday purchased a USA made one via Ebay.
I hope you got the same good experiences with your Levi's as I have.
    Good luck.

You can easily change the fit by turning them inside out and just do a new outseam with a sewing machine, or by hand if you prefer. You could use the measurements from another pair of jeans to get the right fit.

I'd get a pair, but my APCs will be taking all my time for another 6 months.

For the price range I'd rather get some Wrangler 13mwz's

slimmer fit, long inseams, NO anti-fit in the seat, patch and pocket stitchings can easily be removed, broken twill, etc...

few days ago I got a 1993 guatemalian made 501xx in w31 l34, I soaked em in boiling water for about two hours, but they only skrunk 1/2" in waist and 1"in legs, but they should shrink 3" in legs... I can say that the fit of an 1993 US 501 is much looser than a standart 1993 euripean 501, sooo many diefferent cuts... but anyway I love these 501xx its got tradtion, it will always be "the" jeans!

I have a pair of STFs. Picked them up on ebay for about AU$45 shipped. I got W33 which was stupid, because I didn't think about the shrinkage. The jean shrank about 2 inches in length and about an inch in the waist, and just about everywhere else. They're pretty tight on me, actually. Don't wear them much, just too uncomfortable. Most of the fading pics I've seen on sufu have been pretty unspectacular. I'll find some time tomorrow to post fit pics. The one good thing it did for me was to help me figure out which size LVC to pick up, as it made me more familiar with the way they cut their jeans.

Btw, these were made in Colombia.

^^ Oh, the waist has never been a prob for me. It's become too tight in the thigh and seat. I suppose with some decent wear, I can get it to stretch out again, but I've got too many pairs of jeans atm. :)

got too many jeans in rotation to give my 501s love, so i'm leaving them in my parents backyard in the desert all summer to see how much fading it can get.

I think if you leave them like that, they're going to fade all on the front only. Though that could be an interesting look... :)

I love no jeans better than Levis STF. Naturally the "normal" kind are not selvage, this comes with much more expensive LVC products only.
Since I like my jeans tight, I always ignore the shrinkage regarding the waist and only take it into account for the length. As for wearing in, both "schools of thought" exist, the wearing in unwashed as we practice it here so studiously, but also the instant taking them to bath, to achieve the first shrinkage right away.
I like the feel and the knowledge that they are the legitimate heirs of the very original jeans.

Go on eBay and search "Levi Shrink" and you can find them with BINs for 15-20 dollars, and it seems a lot of them ship outsite the US.

    help

Im planing to buy a par of lvc 501 47. My question is about the size. I have tryed on a size w34 and they fit great but when I tryed the w36 they were so big that I could almost fit two legs in them and a fist between the waist. I am worried that when I soak the w34 that they will be to tight. How much do they really shrink because I dont want to wear them baggy. What would you recommend me to do?

Who in the right mind would counterfeit a pair of 30-something dollar Levi's in the first place? I should think you can find consolation in that.
