    How to fake whiskers

Hm, how much should I expect a to pay for a quality fixed-gear bike? I don't mind saving up, so I'd probably want something with 1. great handling/control 2. durability 3. a credible brand/model history

also any bike forums or websites you'd recommend?

If you take a look at my jeans, the whiskers look very similar to ice cold's. It's not fake.

For me, the jeans are just really tight and I sit with my legs bent to a 90 degree angle.

There are many ways to cheat, however, your jeans will be like all the other pre-washed/distressed jeans.

It's just way better to have your jeans tell an authentic story of your lifestyle rather than a fictional story through using sandpaper or bleach.
Every rip/hole/fade/stain tells a story of what happened; this gives your jeans character.

That's why I hate it when people put items in their pockets for the sole purpose of just having a fade.

By the way, no one's answered my question about the voting at the end of the competition yet yet.

What if someone gets all of their friends to vote for their pair?

I'm obviously not the most popular or the most respected guy on the forum and I'm just trying to make it a fair competition.

I thought that saxsnd1 should have won last years competition; however, he never really posted much, so he didn't get any face time.

I hate to get all Kanye on y'all but that's how I feel.

What ever floats your boat man. What I'm trying to say is that if it doesn't reflect your lifestyle, you shouldn't put items in your pocket just for a fade.

I know someone who doesn't do tobacco, but he has a can of tobacco in his back pocket. That's just so fake.

LOL Kanye graphic was a nice touch.

Jyoni, any words on the end-of-contest voting procedure? I don't know what kind of admin settings/access he has (new members cannot vote, i.e. someone can't have a whole bunch of friends join the forum and vote) but he'd have the best say. I always assumed we were going to have an honor system about it and no one would do anything shady.

Anyway, I know that when I voted for last year's, I hadn't followed the forum too closely. I just voted by the separate picture-forum that was on the front page. I imagine most voters would do the same.

What do you all think of a private vote to determine the winner, with a rule of not voting for yourself? There could still be a public poll cos those are nice to have. Problem is, if we wind down to just a handful of people at the end, there wouldn't be much of a voting pool. Plus we're getting an interesting dynamic in here...I'd hate to see the jeans take a backseat to personal feelings

Other options would be approaching a few mods about judging it third-party, or just having a public poll to decide.

Well, if it became private, I worry there may be more bias than if open to the public...
And if it were to be public, I think we should count the votes of people who have been members since the beginning of the contest or at least no later than Summer 2010 (or something like that, just throwing stuff out there). Also, ensure that they have at least a few forum posts. But then again, we would probably have to consider forum lurkers (members that just don't post). I don't know.
But don't worry about it though jyoni, I'm sure something could be figured out...as we are only 2 months into the contest, lol :p

I actually attempted to make something (way back in February) except it ended up being quite ugly, haha. I thought I was going to fix it later, but school sort of caught up with me....heh. This weekend I'll have definitely something though; unless of course anyone else has an idea.

i'm not overly concerned about it... partly because i'm not too worried about "winning or "losing" the contest or anything.

how has it been handled with other contests on here? seems like there's always one going on. There's got to be some standard by now.

yeah... let's see it. If you don't have the time, however, i'd be glad to help.

If you are doing a private one. All the contestants can pm me their favorite pair (other than their own) and i can add them up if you would like.

    Just an offer.

if we do it this way and we let everyone who paid to enter the contest vote (regardless of whether they dropped out) it would be a decent pool.

downside being that the rest of the "community" on the forum has less involvement in it, which is some of the fun i think.

Thanks for offering the help, bilmaga. A private vote would be okay if the pool stayed large. For a public poll, limiting the votes to people who have been members since the start of the contest would work. I don't know if there's a vBulletin mod to restrict the poll based on join date though.

I just heard from KeMcCal. He won't be able to join us. He'll still be lurking though.

I think most people don't really care about winning or losing, it's more about the process and bringing people together. With that in mind, I say the more people that votes the merrier. If you think that people getting their friends to join and vote for them is really a problem then you can maybe restrict the votes to people who have been around for a few months at least.

it would be a shame to lose that bit. it's cool knowing that 134 people (yeah i added them just now) voted last year.

I think the IP idea is good. But between the join date and IP restrictions, this would require a fair amount of manual assistance.

I can also do a poll and make the votes public, so everyone can see who voted for who.
