I just thought I'd share my kinda crappy hemming experience with my IronHeart 634's. The moral of the story is below, too. :)

So they are a little long initially and I wanted about 2 inches cut off. I thought I was clear in communicating that I need to keep the original hem. The tailor is this Korean guy who, other than this particular incident, is an incredible tailor. But he kept saying "I'll keep the same hem style". I kept emphasizing that I need the same actual hem. I thought I saw a lightbulb go off and a look of understanding. I guess not.

I'm actually not horrified by the job, but the original chain stitching hem is gone. DOH! Just thought I'd show what actually happened and also to emphasize that it's good to speak the same native language as your tailor.

I go up to New York all the time... I wonder if I can get Blue In Green to re-chainstitch it! The jeans are actually a tiny tiny tiny bit too long still -- I think I subconsciously asked the guy to add a quarter of an inch to the hem because I knew he would do this. Subconsciously.

It's the price I pay for 21oz urban body armor.

Exact same thing happened with my ALD Royal Selvage. They asked if I wanted to keep the exact same style and color of hem stitching, and I said yes. When I picked them up, they looked exactly like yours do now. It's not that big of a deal, so I'm not pressing the issue, but I'll likely try a different tailor next time.

I already know what Gordon will say. He'll say that the single stitch is stronger than the chainstitch he does. That's what he told me. (although those new machines he has in are probably different)

    Haha, Edmond..

Hey, incidentally, can I ask if the Iron Heart Blacks fade well? I love the s5000bk's fading properties, and I've been wondering about other black jeans' ability to fade..

My understanding is that the 22oz blacks from IH are overdyed and not really meant to fade, though I could be wrong.

So the 301S and 9301 are out!

I want to cop a pair of 9301 but am totally torn between the Flat Head SE05BSP and the 301S! The 301S is slimmer in all respects but is 21oz (soft though not rigid so I have been told)...

But the Iron Hearts are pretty much unbreakable but the Flat Heads are great at fading!

    Any insight from people?

^ you should take a look at the iron heart website, they have these 15 month jeans that look amazing! and it mentions how their jeans take longer to fade, but that was the intention they had when making them. its all covered at their website...

Are you a natural 33" or did you size down? I'm very interested in IH jeans. Itried on a pair at self edge in my natural size and they buttoned up fine with a 0.5" room to spare, but then the next size down is not available and also will be a beast to tame I think...

I'm a natural 34.5" waist and went with the 33" but could have definitely gone with 32". I wear a belt with these though so they wont stretch out so I am happy with them for sure. Plus crouching down would be unforgivable for your legs, you'd get carpet burn if they were too skinny! At first the denim is quite stiff but not excruciatingly so. They soften up real fast though. I love them a lot. Had many comments on them and when they feel the thickness of the denim...I'm pretty sure these are going to last forever! In that size for me, they are the perfect combination of slim, fitted without being overboard on either side of the slim/baggy scale. Get them, you wont be disappointed!
