i'd go for the black one, it looks neat, white one would become yellow-ish after awhile i guess.

alright a question for the tech-savy of you out there. If I'm not on AT&T and buy one and jailbreak it will it work if I'm on US Cellular? I'm really excited for this. I think I would just get the 199 one and stick to my iPod as my primary mp3 player

well I think you have to wait for a new jailbreak cause the 3g is v2.0 and the rumors says it will be quite unbreakable

No it will not, US Cellular is not gsm. T-mobile is your only go.

My 1st gen iphone has just been rendered obsolete lol. O well, a jailbroken, unlocked iphone is still better than most phones out there.

that's why i was patiently waiting for the better to be released so that i don't have to throw away the 1st generation iphone.

but if i had the 1st gen, i'd trade in or sell it cheap to someone and get the new one.

i was wondering how much will they cost if i dont buy them from a local cellular provider. coz i hate using that 3 year contract agreement and owning a cellphone with their logo on my phone.

So I've been wondering. I'm assuming this phone will be available through the Apple store, and we wouldn't have to go through AT&T to get one (I'm on T-mobile and would wait for a Jailbreak)?

I've also been thinking about the Touches, will they get a price drop? Since the iPhone 3g will be $100 cheaper at the same GB size.

This raises an interesting point, because the iPhone 2 actually kinda misses the mark in some important ways for me. No MMS (which I use alot - I've sent 20,000 since last March), crap 2 mp camera in particular (currently I have a 3.2mp sony ericsson with auto focus, macro and flash and have taken over 5000 photos with it since I bought it early last year), and the design could have been better I think, especially compared to some of the more recent rumor mock ups.

But having said that, it is not expensive any more, so the idea of jumping on this phone and throwing it away in a year when the next one comes out is definately an option. They have definately shifted the iPhone to the consumerist target market.

I will most certainly be waiting to see what the rate plans will be like. If I can be offered a cheap alternative to mms, ie a unlimited sms deal etc than I could be swayed, it definately is pretty much what I'm looking for in a phone - it just confuses me as to why there would be no mms capability. My old phones have had that for going near to 5 years.

It will be hard to downgrade phones just to have the iPhone, but I probably will get one anyway. ;-)

I'mma just give my old one away. I agree that the lack of MMS sucks but I'm sure they're be some 3rd party apps that will let us do this. I don't mind the camera either since I carry a good amount as it is, and a 2.0 is good enough for something quick I guess.

firstly, why dont you use email application for sending pictures?
secondly, a phone is a phone, so i dont thing there's a need for having a good or high MP on a camera. i use my digicam if i wanna take some pictures.

just opinions, zack, not trying to argue. :)

I agree and disagree with you Offyatree.

I agree that I'm not crazy about adding more gadgets too it unless it's amazingly great at it. That said MMS is much easier then having to email pics all the time, and most people aren't able to see mail until they get home and log on.

At the same time owning an iPhone I hate that I can't view MMS either and that I have to log onto a website in order to see what someone sent me.

well if you like the MMS and high MP camera phones, go for the nokias or sony ericsson, they even have a 5MP camera phone i think, not sure which model. i just want some change on this cellphone world. bored of using nokia-motorola-ericsson(back in the 90s).

so is the price gonna be $199 for the 8gb everywhere (outside USA)?

Because I get unlimited MMS to people on my network. It costs me $3 a month, if I'm gonna send a photo with every message it may as well be half decent. I can't be bothered to average it out, but 5000+ photos divided by 18 months equals quite a few photos every day, they may as well be half decent if I'm gonna bother taking so many.

Ghost: I probably wouldn't bother if I have to start an application every time I want to send a message.

I would say right now there is maybe 85% of me wanting the phone, gonna wait and see what the data plans are like. If I can get some kind of messaging deal which can ease my mms addiction I'll be sold!

i think its not going to be 200 bucks.. only with a AT&T contract.

I guess it will be around 500 euro still..
