I was at the mall today and saw a table of DKNY jeans. What caught my eyes were the design on the back pockets which were obviously a blatant attempt by DKNY to copy nudie backstitching design. Has this been discussed before? It was pretty rediculous.

From what I've seen of the DKNY Jeans line (on their website and in person), I think it's a stretch to say their pocket design is similar to Nudie's.

And shouldn't this be in the "Anything" or "Fashion & Clothing" forum?

I checked their site to see what's up. The Madison and Brooklyn respectively. I can't say I see a "blatant" attempt at emulating Nudie, and I really doubt DKNY would have any reason to target Nudie anyway. The brands cater to two completely different audiences, demin-wise.

Looking at this one though, I do see an uncanny resemblance to the standard back pocket design of Diesel, sans flaps.

Yeah, I did see the Diesel resemblance. But not at all a resemblance to Nudie.

Have you ever seen a Nudie back pocket? I think everyone rips Diesel though. All guess jeans have the same stitch too.

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. But I am under the impression that a back pocket design is not something that can be trademarked? So there isn't much Diesel can do about it. Not that they even have to. Telling a Diesel from a Guess is fairly simple nonetheless. Can't stand guess jeans.

i think r&r have a super original back pocket, as well as true religion, think those may be the only ones (other then nudie of course) that are totally recognizeable and cant be confused with other brands

Yeah true religion has tons of cheap ripoffs (big star, more of an american company). I'd say they're a highly copied company.

    You have no idea.

Considering the fact that "that brand" has been mentioned twice, I am almost surprised this thread hasn't been shot down yet. Almost...

Lol, no apology nessesary on this end. I just know that there seems to be a good deal of animosity harbored for the brand in these forums.

    Just you wait... ;)

To get half assed back on topic. Someone commented earlier about R&R's design not being copied.

I saw a pair of Rocawear jeans that had the same design. Only the "r" was a slightly different shape. But the layout was the same.

Not that I give a shit. Just adding something to the thread.

If anything, it looks like they might be ripping off the Lee "lazy-S". I can't imagine them wanting to rip off a brand that is just this side of unknown in the grand scheme of things (sorry to say that, but really, relatively very few people know about Nudies).

I have the same exact habit. It's a field day when I go off to NYC (which is practically every week). Unfortunately (or fortunately, I'm not really sure) I rarely if ever manage to spot a butt garbed in Nudies. Even in the big apple, my current tally rests at three. One of which was a flying A store attendant, so that doesn't quite count.

Nah, you can easily find pairs for sale at the Flying A, Atrium, and a handful of other shops. But I think the lack of "Nudie-butts" in the big city is something of a testament to the fact that Nudie isn't quite as mainstream as some tend to (rather irrationally imo) fear.

    So um....rejoice? :p

I'd have to agree. I've seen only two or three employees of Denim Bar wearing Nudies, and three people outside of there. One of those was the worst pre-wash I'd ever seen.
