Ok. So I'm taking advantage of my 20+ post count to make my first thread :p

Basically I'm curious to see what sort of speed some people have had their crotches blow out. Just poll for the fastest, unless your fastest is like REALLY fast cos you sized horribly badly, in which case maybe poll your second fastest :p

I for instance have had my TFUIC about a month and a half, and while the crotch has not blown out there is a section right next to the seam at the crotch, towards the back, which has a little circle about .5 of a cm in diameter which is down to sort of one layer/direction of threads, and quite clearly lets some light through when you hold it up (how I discovered it). 1.5 months seems a bit premature, but thats been basically constant wear, a LOT of walking with my thighs rubbing this spot between them, february sweat (I wore them straight through 35+ degree days), work wear, and possibly most importantly wearing them riding a bike with a seat with ripped up vinyl that scratched against the spot and tore warp threads. I've cold soaked them and I'm going to get a tailor to reinforce it, and since the damage is still small I'm hoping that a) they can do so with minimal stitching and b) it will not suffer from such serious damage in that area in the future.

edit: I probably meant 0-3 months for the first option, meh :)

oh, and just to double post, and slightly go off topic, to those that have repaired stretch thins, did you use stretch denim for the repair? If not, was the result good? Denim should be easy enough to come by, but decent stretch, I dunno.

Ive had my slim jim organic dry now for about 4 months.
For the first 2 months i wore them about 3 days a week.
For around the last 2 months ive worn them nearly every day.
I have a slight hole in the crotch area caused by friction.
I walk quite a bit - about 3 miles for 5 days of the week going to work so that could be the cause.

I'm actually kinda surprised how many people haven't had a crotch rip, it seems like you hear about everyone having patched or reinforced their nudies. I've been wearing mine for about 3.5 months quite hard, and even though i have a hole where i keep my chapstick and will eventually get one from my phone, there is absolutely no signs of damage in the crotch.

Nice idea, that poll! I've emptied my heart about this on other threads, but this opportunity is more than welcome. My RRDS has developed a 1 Euro-Cent size crotch hole, and there is a smaller one (about two needle-pin-heads, if that makes any sense) below the right ass pocket, and two more in the early developing stage.
I am not happy about this, as they are far from the first wash, and it is really a lot less than a convincing statement about nudie dry denim quality.

While I like the ripped look and can be seen in the summer in "you can't poosibly wear those anymore" punkish denim quite often, and yes, I've said that repairing is for the feeble-minded and a real denim guy wears his old and best-loved jeans provocatively torn, dry denim should last A LOT longer.

So I will badger Nudie for donor denim and do what I really dislike to do: get them repaired, long before their first wash.

Incidentally: I voted 3-6 months, the RR is older than that, but this amounts to the time frame that I've worn them---closer to 3 than 6 months, actually!!!

come on...jeans are made from cotton....no matter where they were made in and what kind of exotic cotton the company used, they could still rip... especially when they were meant to be worn HARD. a good hint, if our nudies don't rip, the company wouldn't get much profit from us from keep buying their denim. hehe....

My AJDH JUST ripped in the crotch... roughly 2 weeks shy of the 6 month mark. They're at the tailors as we post.

My first pair nudies, the bootcut olas, are reputed to be crafted some of the most pathetically flimsy denim in the Nudie collection. Anyone who saw them is well aware of the strenuous life they led up to their first wash, and yet nearing their 10 month anniversary, there are no signs at all of any crotch ripping.

Luck? Arbitrary denimology anomaly? Divinely blessed by uncharacteristic benevolence from the denim Gods? *Shrug* For what it's worth, at two months, the RRDG seems to be following in these footsteps.

SJDJ has had two rips now, one at 2 weeks (tight and low - it was gonna hapen) and another just a few weeks ago, at roughly 5 or 6 months or something. So far have had 2 washes.

TFDBC worn for a whole year un-washed and finally ripped when I was wearing them lower than usual and running after someone. Now washed! I think that those were just dirty/stressed from not ever being washed.

I just got my jeans, so no info on crotch rips yet.. but to go a little off topic, I've heard that Nudie sends you some orange thread and denim scraps for crotch rips. Is that true?

they'll send you a repair kit, but unless you actually need the thread, and are very picky about colour matching, I don't think it's worth it. for patching any old denim will probably be ok, like quality wise, and yeah, you're not going to want to use the orange stitching for fixing up a hole in your crotch (unless you want it to be very obvious :p), plus you generally have to wait a fair while for the kit it seems, which is just downtime for wear.

honestly, the crotch rips are more common with people who size down too much. it causes the denim to stretch more, putting more strain in the threads

yeah I did a similar preemptive job with mine really, but they woulda blown before the 3 month mark I'd say, hence my vote :p on that note here's a quick +1 for the tailor that the nudies store in melb uses, my repair is literally invisible, like I couldn't even capture it on film from the outside, yet it totally hardens up the area I needed fixing so it just won't ever break, seriously a quality piece of work, kind of pricey at $20 for my tiny fix, but I think that's probably just the kind of minimum price of repair and that something a bit more full on would probably not cost much more. much recommended, and he'll be be the fixer of all my jeans from now on, nudies or otherwise :p
