Nudie Jeans Co is not noticing any effects of the slower economy. As all other exports are falling Nudie Jeans continues to grow and in March 2009 is opening a new concept store in Osaka, Japan. This is the second store Nudie Jeans opens in Japan, the first one being in Tokyo.
"Everything has been really good. We had a great start and since then things have just kept on rolling. We work with an excellent partner in Japan, since it's such a different business culture. One season could be fantastic and then the next one is catastrophic and it's hard to analyze how the markets are affected" says Andreas Åhrman, Director of Marketing and Sales at Svenska Jeans AB. "Osaka is a city with a strong denim tradition and it's also where most of the Japanese denim industries are located."
How does Nudie Jeans dare to focus on growth at the same time as reports are showing that the Japanese economy is tumbling? Andreas says, "We have been looking for the recession but haven't seen it yet. It might be that we are such a young company, which has had modest growth. We take care of our brand in all markets."
Nudie Jeans now have seven concept stores: Göteborg, Stockholm, Oslo, Tokyo, Osaka, Sydney, and Melbourne.
