I noticed teh winter jacket thread but seeing how there were few replies there, I went ahead and made my own thread. Moderators feel free to move it if you feel that it's unnecessary, i apologize ahead of time if that was my case.

Anyway, winter has hit new jersey and I'm looking for a warm winter jacket. Any suggestions?

what kind of jacket are you looking for? Casual/snowboard kinda jackets/wool/semi format coat/thick cotton jacket/or???

me personally, i like to wear layers, so i dont really wear a thick jacket over a tee shirt, get me? well still we need to know what kind of jacket you are looking for. lol

i know G-star jeans aren't very popular here, but G-star makes some pretty nice jackets, and ssense stocks heaps of them.....

otherwise... i've got a couple of shades of greige...
APC... rag and bone... really nice jackets they have as well...

guess it really matters what type of jacket you're looking for....

good point. hmm, something more casual i guess. warm, yet reasonably stylish. i'd wear layers but i spend way too much on jeans and not tops. :(

according to your style, i think you are more like a street wearer than a semi or formal guy, eh? i think you could try brands like freshjive, alive, gap(they make decent jackets imo).

try www.karmaloop.com there's a bunch of jackets which i think you would like at least a few.

i think this jacket would look good on ya, doitsujin.

Like Ryan said, there's some APC shiz on SF (www.styleforum.com) (<-clicky). I'm gonna' check that out right now, thanks for the tip, man. I would get it locally, or from Context.

Haha, you would say that, wouldn't you, Timmy.. :-)

Well, depending on how cold it is where you live, you could also get W+H, Doitsu.. This thread should just be renamed "Outerwear You've Bought or Want for Winter 2008"

reliable sources ain't the problem, sizing is, oh yeah and offcourse they really don't come cheap...

You're into that real authentic stuff that Japanese folks and denim collectors are totally into. You know exactly what I'm talking about.

hmmm, where do you get japanese tops tiro? is it mostly thru proxy?

for jackets -> www.clever-id.com, take5 also could help you with alot I guess...
if they don't have it, proxy might be the best bet...

as for tees etc. -> selfedge, take5, 2nd, etc...

and beau, I kinda know what you mean, but on the other hand, that ain't exactly true, otherwise, I would've just posted an A1 bomber jacket or something... :-P
thing is, while I do like the stuff you are referring to, I try to find my own style in it, not like Eddie (no offense)

BeauIXI
5th November 2008, 04:25
Haha, Ed doesn't have his own style, he has his own nation.

And I personally would have posted this:

BeauIXI

No. Doitsujin, buy the jackets I tell you to buy, or buy nothing at all. Then post it so that I know for sure that you have obeyed my command.

I just picked up new Krane Design Emory jacket. Context was out of my size so I had to go directly to the source (I think I was actually coresponding with Ken Chow, Krane Design's designer). It was a little pricy, but I'm confident in the style and quality.

^ the jacket looks bulky imo.

Oh yeah - definitetly. It was designed for extreme weather. Just wanted to show and tell it haha. It gets pretty bad in Edmonton when I used to live there (-40 celcius and then add windchill) walking around felt like death.
I can't really seem to find any jackets with high utlitarian use but still not so bulky/fashionable. That parka is the best I've seen yet. My winter jacket is warm but I look like the michellin tire man :x

offyatree

imo, the best way to stay warm in extreme winter condition is wearing layers and a waterproofed/windproofed outer shell. however, for thick insulated jackets, i like penfield.

I'm also looking for a nice winter jacket. I will probably layer it up, but am thinking for kind of a casual pea coat to be the outer layer. Any ideas?
