Just bought a new pair of jeans? How about one you've been wearing for the past 8 months? Well post it here for all to see! If you must critique someone else's fit, please do so in a polite, constructive manner. This is a JEANS thread on a JEANS forum so all questions regarding fit etc are valid. On the flip side, if you receive a comment that you do not agree with, please don't take offense, people are just being honest.

Despite the fact that you have a nice collection there, I never understand why someone would buy so many pairs of raw denim. Even at 6 months per pair, you have the next 5+ years cut out for you.

Raoul Duke

the decision to 'stock' up on jeans is my decision and mine only. If thats not you, cool im not gonna rag on you for not having enough jeans. If I like what I see and I have the means I will go ahead and buy it. End of discussion..

You are just pissy because you got ripped over of superfuture, aren't you?

It's a possibility he got a good deal with his purchases. For instance, I bought 3 pairs of Nudies on boxing day for $99/pair

I will post fit pics some time this weekend.

As for feedback regarding whatyouknowaboutthat fits, I personally think that you need to sag them a little bit more. The jeans tend to accentuate your ass a little too much (no homo).

Fits 1,2,6,7,8 look especially awkward. You might want to break these jeans in more so they contour you better. Right now, they look a little too snug. Also, it might be beneficial for you to look into avoiding slimmer fitting jeans due to your body composition. The APC Cure looks a little tight and isn't all that flattering; maybe sizing up 1 or 2 would alleviate the problem.

G'luck

Yeah, who really cares about how many you have? Maybe you just found some super deals, right?

Pft. Haha, no, but it's cool, man. As long as you're happy with your purchases, right? Personally, I mean, I'm looking for my next selvage pair, and I'm only like, four months into my very first Nudies.. If I fond a good sale, I'd splurge right now and keep 'em in the closet. Bam. Opinion stated.

Anyway, I was originally going to say that your pictures certainly make an excellent reference guide for any prospective buyers. + rep.

Gold, im loving the fits. So is my problem mainly that I DONT sag enough? I'm just not used to sagging my jeans ever. If it would improve my fit I'll give it a try but then again I personally like my fits. Being so short, I think it doesn't matter that my body is more athletic than fat or skinny - I NEED to wear skinnier cuts or cuts like 501. Correct me if I'm wrong Im here to learn.

Raoul Duke
3rd February 2008, 08:17
I think with wear, most of those pairs will fit fine. IMO, you want the jeans to be tight when you start, otherwise they will fit poorly within a few weeks. I agree with the majority in that you are wearing your pants pretty high. That makes the thighs tighter and elongates your ass.

I suggest you pick 2 of these pairs and wear them hard. The rest you should keep in pristine condition in case you decide to sell. I know you think you want to wear all these jeans over the next 5-10 years, but who knows how you'll feel as time passes. By buying so many pairs now, you will not be able jump on anything else that comes out in the future without further overwhelming yourself with denim you can't wear.

whatyouknowaboutthat
3rd February 2008, 08:44

I agree with what your saying there. I think skinny fits on an athletic build just look awkward though. I definitely think the SDAs fit your body type best, they're not skin tight in the thighs like most of the others- at least they don't look it. In my personal opinion I would stick to fits like that, I think they compliment your body type perfectly.

As far as sagging goes on that fit, after you wear it will stretch a bit and naturally starting sitting lower and they'll feel comfortable.

I concur. at three pairs currently, I can't even imagine a good way to divide up the time that should be spent on each of them. I too was a victim of circumstance, or at least a very incredible sale or two. I saved at least 120 USD on my Monarchys.

Dude let me tell you for real as someone who works at the store as the denim specialist..

In 04 the jeans sucked, but the denim was awesome. true japanese denim, made in the usa. in 05 the ruehl jeans were crappy. You had to size down 1 maybe 2 sizes. but the denim was great quality. But at the end of 05 into 06, the greatest jeans ever came out. They were called the Vandams. It was basically a low rise slim boot, with ideas off of the abercrombie baxter, but they made the cuts nicer, slimmer through the leg, better seat, and best off, the quality of them was amazing. Multiple denim choices, multiple washes, etc etc, lots of sizes to choose from.

They charged $140-160 for them at this time, and honestly, I think those vandams blew away diesels, luckys, and 7famk. this is when i started shopping at ruehl, and later got recruited.

BY february 2007, all of the good vandams were pretty much put on clearance, and new jeans came out. These new ones were made in mexico, on the same shitty denim as abercrombie, and they were literally the same this as abercrombie... but with $20 more on them.

The new ruehl jeans suck. Trust me. i don't reccomend anyone buy them. If you can find some OLLLDD ruehl vandams (they will say MADE IN USA/ MADE IN USA OF JAPANESE FABRIC / or MADE IN MEXICO OF PREMIUM JAPANESE FABRIC) then yes, get them, trust me you'll be happy with them. But if they don't say either one of those things, please, save your money get other jeans...

The same applies to the women's jeans. The made in USA cuts are ****ing awesome. I'll take some pics of me with the girls this weekend, and I think you guys will be impressed with the cuts.

now all the jeans suck at the store. it's a shame. A&F trying to cut costs, and sell clothing just on the name and not on the quality any more. I haven't bought any jeans that aren't more than a year old from Ruehl, unless something comes in on super duper clearance..

Hopefully this clears it up.

Wow, good info. I was always confused about why Ruehl jeans were sooo goddamn expensive when they came out. I actually have quite a few pairs of 2 - 4 year old Ruehl's and I do like them. Some have been bought recently. My girlfriend (and some of her friends) totally -- like totally totally -- love the Vandams. When it comes down to it, the women love great lookin' ass, no matter what you spent on your denim.

I was actually going to sell a heap of them since I more recently got into raw (I'm pretty religious about rotating out unused "inventory"). But the Vandams -- I'll have to be selective about which one's I sell! I might keep a few of my Mortons in case someone asks me to help paint their house! Hahaha.

Thanks man! This photo session made me think of rotating the 1955 and Eternals once the contest is over. I will fill up these posts some more once I've fully soaked some of the older LVC repros. Lildavid awesome posts....you just helped me heaps on knowing what size to get for the 811's. Just a question: Where'd you get your 811's raw from? All rakuten stores I've seen em at are one-wash...I dont want o/w since I want to keep more of the length than those industrial shrunk 811's. (gonna try zipangu treasures tho....beats sent me over to them)

Oh my 811's are one wash, you know I'm a short guy :-). The raw, unwashed ones only come like once a year. Bears still have a few: http://google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fitem.rakuten.co.jp%2Fbear s%2Feternal-811%2F&langpair=ja%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF8
You could always email Zipangu and ask Masataka if can get a hold of raw ones. Otherwise you could just ask him to proxy the ones from Bears to you. But then there's going to be an extra 15% proxy fee.
I sized mine true and they were really tight to begin with. Took a few minutes to button them up at first, but I wanted them to this slim on the leg.

lilldavid
7th February 2008, 08:03
Right on..so since they're a bit hard to come by raw Im definitely gonna cop them now instead of waiting till next Jan when I was planning on starting them.

My waist measures 32" so would you say a 32 would give me a good relaxed fit? (i dont want slim, nor loose, just in the middle so I can get some more defined combs)

If you were to get a one-wash I think you might need to get a 33. BUT they do stretch of course and I dont know how they are when raw. Since you dont want to shrink them hard maybe you'd be fine with a 32...

Masataka told me just about every one-wash pair measures a bit differently from the other and got me the ones closest to what I needed

alright, well Bears still has a 32 raw in stock...if zipangu cant get a hold of a pair, I'll have em proxy from Bears..and I cant imagine myself buying a size 33 jean....sounds dangerous...though should be expected w/eternals reverse vanity sizing.

Thanks for the help!

Good luck and make sure to post pictures if you get the raw ones!

화 = FI 이 = IGH 팅 = TING. Thats how each word "sounds"

Really impressed with these SJDJ! You said they were accidently washed at 4 months. Have they had much use since then? Find you need to size down with these or just your regular size? Cant decide whether to go for these or AJDS next.

I have SJDJ and AJDS any my my favourite out of the two is definatly the Jim, but the AJ is a very nice cut too.
I went true to size on the jims but sized down one on the AJ.
My SJDJ fits a lot like Drewbee's.

Tight! It looks like the cut wouldn't fit your body shape, your thighs are too big (no offense, I too have pretty big thighs and calfs, although I don't use to play football or simply run very often ;-) ). You would look and probably feel more comfortable in a true straight leg or relaxed fit in my opinion.

But maybe they'll stretch like crazy nevertheless..

I may not have the best body, but I sure as hell won't wear jeans that are 3 sizes to small. You can't argue with me that those aren't a terrible fit. Come on...

Since you asked, here is what I am wearing now. Samurai S5000VX size 34x36 from Lot 10 with the weird sizing issues.

raoul, good fit on those jeans. I think a lot of us size down on our jeans brand new with the expectation that they will stretch. No one really sizes down 3 with hopes of wearing it as the muffin top jean. Muffin tops are something some of us can deal with for the first few wears cause we know in the end they will stretch.

Raoul Duke

toni2, I wasn't calling you a fatty or anything. I'm sure you look fine in a pair of pants that fits you. I think yours may be beyond the stretchable limits, that's all. I definitely suggest some damp stretching in the waist to loosen those up. How much have you worn them in the 2 weeks?

I only have 3 pairs of jeans:

- Size 34 Nudie RRDS
- Size 34x36 Lot 10 S5000VX Samurai
- Size 33x34 Gap 1969 Straight Fit Selvage

On the nudies I might have been able to do a 33. I'll post fit pics when I get a chance. Don't have any pics other than the initial ones where they are skin tight. The Gap ones, I could have done a 32, but I don't care as I don't wear them. Stupid impulse buy!

I also preordered a pair of the Esef Sky 21oz size 34. Other than that, I don't really have anything on the horizon. I'd really like to wear these ones in real nice before I buy any more pairs.

If it helps, I am 6'3" 200lbs.

Join in the praise of your raw denim collection, whatdoyouknow.... awesome. (Only saw it right now since I don't enter the forum every day...). I get really tired of all the anti-tight fit people, does'nt anybody know that jeans are meant to be tight? The Olas (nr. 1) would look a lot worse if worn any looser, they are just right. The LVC of No. 10 -with the extra extreme cuffs...) I even would have recommended a size smaller. And you could try to look a little friendlier, if you don't mind my saying so... the facial expression is quite raw, just like the denim! And yes, it seems a task of a lifetime to wear them all in. Enjoy!

Oh sorry for being a bit complicated :-).

I mean I did an initial 60 celsius wash and tumble dry to fully shrink them. then I wore them for about a month and they stretched like hell so I soaked them for about 6 hours. I did another soak about a week or two later cause I wasnt happy with the amount of shrinkage and just left them there througout the night ie 15 hours. Been wearing them since until today when I decided to wash them again but this time I just let them hang dry.

hope this is somewhat understandable...

It takes some getting used to the jeans in boot look, but you pull it of pretty well, maybe it's the fact that i see a lot of guys doing it over here in Holland lately.

Why would you want to buy 3 pairs of the Prescott model?
Although they are a different fabric.
I see in your pics that all the jeans are unwashed denims, how to make time to wear them? Would take years before those will fade.

DoitsuJin is right this has been debated before but to explain shortly: yes there's certainly a part of addiction, now under control. Some time ago I used to think I had a serious problem but man when I saw how much some guys here are into denim... I'm no match for them. Also I'm in no rush for fading, I just love the look and feel of dry denim and I rotate the jeans often.

Let's open an informal Prescott Darktone contest between you and me BB-Tjai! ;-)

First of all, I didn't know that this has been debated before.

Good idea, a contest would be great.
I try to fade my jeans as fast as possible, because by rotating it will take a few years.
But back to topic, let's put fit pics of our jeans on 1 april 2008 and then every month one fit pic. Is that OK?

Acetate
11th March 2008, 12:15
Sounds okay BB but we need to even as mines have more or less one month of wear and show some contrast. I think you got yours recently so wear them hard til 1st april while my pair stays in the closet and we will start on this day.

Well come on people, how do your jeans fit?

BB-Tjai
11th March 2008, 13:39
That's fine.
I will start a new topic in The Contests Thread this evening for that.
Please shoot some daylight photo's of your jeans when laid flat and when wearin them and post them there. I will do the same tomorrow. Than we know with what we start.

Believe me the quality of AJ reissues nowadays is really bad, certainly not worth the price. Those 9.5 have something like 15 days of wear and the white paint on the midsole is already cracking (the paint not the sole, fortunately?) and falling apart! And they're legit for sure...
I don't care that much about indigo bleeding anymore, except on nubuck cause hot water and soap can't do the trick then. It's just part of the dry denim thing.

Also I don't pretend to tell people how jeans should fit, just wanna feel comfortable in mines.

Mattman816, from what I can tell the fit looks ok though I'm not really into Nudie cuts. Seems like there's room in the thighs, that's good.

LOL There is ALWAYS something to complain about when it comes to J's, I know. There are great ways to keep them maintained in good condition in the same point. Like things to do before you un-DS them. If you like, pm me for more info on that.

Don't take me so literal though, when I say the way jeans should fit because with the meaning you have countless different fitting/cut jeans worn by different body types (contributors of this thread). I mean you have the super tight, slim, low rise, boot cuts etc. worn in so many different ways and you have pics*the best visual aid*. Like I said, it's very helpful to the new folks.

A newbie to dry denim here. Been wandering the boards for about a month or two just reading up on everything. Eventually ordered my first pair, they're Slim Jim Dry Broken Twill off Cultizm. Was looking to get more of a straight look since I'm not a fan of skinny fitting jeans. Here are some pictures from the day I got them (Tags are still on haha!).

Size: 30X32 (I have about a 31 waist in Levi's and was surprised at how tight these jeans felt when I first put them on)

Dimensions: 140lbs (63kg) and I'm about 5'10/11" (178cm-ish?)

Soaked and worn only a few days. It is the slimmest pair of jeans i own. I really like the fit and the denim is great, really slubby and so stiff. The color is beautiful, a deep deep blue.

To the OP:

I admire your collection and you definitely have your work cut out for you. Each pair of jeans look spectacular but they all look the same basically. Fitted and tapered at the ankles. I can't say anything since I don't own a pair of raw denims yet but I plan to purchase 2 pairs and that's it. I didn't realize how small you are. I thought I was small and I'm 5'9" 171lbs

I take it you dont like the nudie stitching either? (real question, no sarcasm here)

On the contrary, I like the nudie stitching a lot. To me, that stitching is right on point, whereas the AW stitching, spreading out over the whole pocket, is over the top.
What pocket stitching should do imo is accentuate the top of the legs (when you wear your jeans low) or draw a line over the butt (when not sagged).
Anything more tends to make jeans campy I find.

What kind of shoes are those? I love them!

Thanks for the compliments fellas.

Cheers Baert, I really like them too. They are by Nanny State, a really good shoe company. My particular model is known as the 'Toe Detail Shoe' in full leather. If you're UK/EU you can get them from here (http://www.asos.com/Nanny-State/Nanny-State-Toe-Detail-Shoe/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=176784&cid=4209&clr=Black&Rf-400=490&sh=0).

They cost around 50, so about 100 USD.

By the way, if you like the jeans, buying them from www.superdenim.co.uk right now, with a 10% discount (using the code RINGXRING, I also think we have our own MYNUDIES discount), you also get a free Denim Demon tee worth 30.

Here's mine and I love the fabric and fit:

but by saying no homo, it negates any notion of homosexuality...

it is difficult with those kinda shoes.
you would be always stepping on your rrds if you dont cuff em with shoes like that.

stacking will be way too much if i uncuff them my regular length is about 31, these are 34
i dont plan on hemming them until after my first wash. plus i don't step on my cuffs because i tape em to my shoes :D lol. it may seem a little extra but, i think its worth not ripping my cuffs

ohya, i was planning to hem them later and the faded streak on my rrds from cuffing will basically be the new ?hem? *not sure what to call it but basically the bottom lining of my jeans*

good idea? bad idea?

if you like the "thick bottom line" of your jeans, and would like to get hemmed, then tell your tailor to keep and re-sew that original line after it's been hemmed. i'd hem 1-1.5inches only so when you want to cuff, they won't be that big anymore.

I think someone wanted me to post some pictures of those jeans a while ago,so here they are:

Drykorn, Jack2 ,30x32

They've stretched as hell, even though they already were pretty loose when I bought them.
But I'm quite excited to wash them( in a few months of course),because there were like 5 warnings on them not to do so.

I went to Vienna for some days and decided to buy some Thin Finns, but when I came home there were some Grim Tims waiting for me as a late birthday present. So I have two brand new pair of Nudies now.I was thinking about sending the Tims back, but I really like them,so I guess both will stay.

Grim Tim Dry Dirt Organic, 30x32:

They're pretty big for 30x32,but I like the fit.

Thin Finn Dry Stretch, 31X32:

I actually wanted them to fit more like the Grim Tim,so I sized up one or two sizes, not knowing that there are some of them lying on my bed.So they pretty much look the same now.

Levis 517 bootcut jeans, made in USA size 28x30. These are either from the late 80s or the 90s... Not sure but the quality is better than the ones that are made in Latin American these days. One heavy downpour/rain soak, one hot soak a few days after that , no wash.
