Well, it's finally time (I think). I've had my Dry LFs since June 2004 and I think they're ready for a wash. I'll put some before and after pics online once they're done - I plan to do it at the weekend.

Any tips, apart from what's already been said? (e.g. inside out, very little or no soap, stretching the inseam etc).

I don't want to shrink them very much so I'll not tumble dry them.

Wish me luck :D

the first time i washed my ralfs, i threw them in the washing machine by themselves, in hot water with a regular amount of liquid detergent.

i found they shrunk a bit in the waist, nothing too noticeable in the length, and the colour change was almost non existant. from a black colour, to a very dark blue.

next time i wont turn them inside out, and ill put in some old towels or something to soak up some indigo, and hopefully theyll fade a bit better.

does putting in towels really help the fade?

Watch out for unwanted crinkels if you don't turn them inside out!

Well, they're done. Not really that much difference really in my eyes. Anyway, I'll get some pics posted shortly. See what you think.

Yes post some pics! We all want to see the results even if they're small :)

OK, they're up in my personal gallery. I'm not very happy with the pics, but I'm pretty happy with the jeans. They've lost a bit of colour, not too much, and you can see the creases and fade lines in the knees, at the back of the legs, and around the pocket areas - and the crotch is pretty much faded out and worn out! Pretty pleased with my 1st effort - sure they'll get better with further wear and another wash in the future.

The links to the pics are below as well.

These are my Dry LFs after the 1st wash - doesn't look so good in the pics - you can hardly see the difference. The left photo is before, the right photo is after a 40 degree wash with no soap. Will maybe try a little soap next time. Sorry about the quality of some of the pics though. You'd need good eyesight to spot any differences, but trust me, they're there lol

I've had the jeans since June 2004, so it's been well over a year of wear. They actually do look pretty good in reality, the pics don't show that though.

One thing I did notice is that they've shrunk quite a lot, especially in the actual width of the legs - they're not really loose anymore, more of a comfort fit. I was quite surprised at how much they shrunk to be honest...although they still do fit, luckily! I'd have been raging otherwise

I recommend you wash them in a few weeks in hot water with some detergent. You'll notice a lot of fading.

BTW, "you washed your jeans too soon" is completely ludicrous. The most amazingly faded jeans are those that are washed once a month.

Thanks Sarlo!

Those pictures are terrible, I know! I have no idea why they're so poor, I'll maybe give it another go some time and see if I can improve the quality. I'm embarrassed  lol
