i agree with Blimaga about the ALD belts. i got one from Mac at Jeanspaleis and it's a solid piece of leather.

You should defenitely have a look at the ALD saddle leather belt if you're looking for a belt with 2 holes which will age nicely.
Quality is no issue with these, they're just supreme so they will last a lifetime.
Only thing is they're a bit expensive, but hey... what's 68 euro if it will last forever!

jeps, got the saddle leather ALD belt from JP, great belts, considering getting the full grain leather also...

the saddle leather is available in 3 colors if I'm not mistaken, black, dark brown and tanned (cognac/whatever)... I got the tanned or cognac one, or whatever the color is called

thinking bout getting a silver buckle from RM, but the thing is, I think I prefer the last one and it looks exactly the same as the buckle that is on my RM belt right now
but in silver, where my buckle is pewter, so I guess it wouln't be worth it, you probably wouldn't see any difference between them if you put them next to eachother...

I really like the top one, those flat square buckles seem to age so nicely, just wondering how big it really is...

50x75x3mm (30,450 yen) I think it's the same one that's on Takashi's belt...
actually, I think I prefer the bottom one's type of 'closing' tho, those buckles with just a pin aren't the best way of fastening your belt...

How exactly is the length of ALD belts measured? 85 and even 90 cm seem very short...

from where the buckle is connected to the belt, to the middle hole (like most belts are measured)

I have an 85cm ALD belt, as mentioned above, and it fits my 34" waist fine, 3 knotches in is tight, 2 for a comfortable fit, 1 for loose.

So I'm presuming 90 goes up to 36" waist, and so on.

Does anyone here have experience with the fit of the Sugar Cane Garrison belts? I've heard they fit on the small side, but perhaps people just buy the wrong size because I believe Sugar Cane measures their belts from the center hole to the end of the buckle, instead of to the end of the leather like other belt companies....

Thoughts???

that is a silver redmoon buckle, they are expensive as hell, they also have the exact same buckle in pewter, but you can't get it separate, only if you buy one of their belts that comes with that buckle...

the ALD Saddle leather Cognac

I just got the black ALD belt in 90cm and right out of the box it fits in the next to last hole. So given the stretching it may be on the last hole in a few months. Worst case I am afraid I may have to eventually punch new holes, which sucks. The reason is I am likely to lose a little weight in the near future...

So, what is the opinion out there? Keep this one? Or exchange for the 85cm? I think I could stretch an 85 to fit in the center hole, right?

Another concern is there are variances in each belt. Not all 85s measure the same. Not all 90s measure the same. This 90 actually measures 93cm....

Oh and the Sugar Cane belt in 36 fits perfectly on the center hole. Very nice belt...

the double pin SC4191

I notice that they only differ in the pin (single/double) but the price difference is quite significant which is 4k-5k yen. Anybody knows more about how they differ?

It will stretch by itself when you start wearing it.

That's the curved belt you're talking about, right? Or is that the case with their other belts too? I considered getting a samurai belt to wear with my s710, but went with the cheaper option of a Corter, and I'm very happy with it so far.

So if next time I am going to post here, I am going to get something that can be oiled and tanned.

tanning or oiling got nothing to do with it, there are plenty of belts out there that don't need to be tanned or oiled and they still look good, the belts you posted however, are ugly and girlish imho, tanned/oiled or not...

but like the others already told you, that's just our opinion, to each his/her own

Teasing me? Come on, enough already.

Months back, people are just wearing these belts all around and even my friends got them. So I thought to myself, got to be an 'in' thing to own a pair. So I got a pair, okay, 2 pairs. Didn't expect the feedbacks to be so disastrous, I suppose it isn't a smart move to post these pairs here. (I was wanting to post my other similar leather products too, guess I better not now) :-|

Well, like I said, I guess I got a grasp of what this forum's belt style is like, I think I would upload my other belts (they are not of any "bling" category) that I wore with my jeans soon, do give comments. Hopefully the result would be better. Cheers. 8-)

Well, you could put it that way. Maybe it's the first time my post gather so much response and practically all of them are negative. I have seen people posting fashion brands and didn't receive negative feedbacks like this. Personally, I didn't expect the response to turn out like this so it's kind of embarrassing as I feel out of place in this forum. So I know something must be wrong somewhere. Sure, they're leather and here is a "belt" thread, thus, the thought 'Why not? I've got a couple of pictures of my belt' seems appropriate at that moment. But after comparing from the other posts, mine seems a little out of place.

I have yet to see that combination though. My friends just wear normal jeans (they are not into dry/raw jeans) along with a designer belt. Whereas for me, my Gucci belt is still new and I wore my Louis Vuitton belt along with a jeans that looked bleached enough to not bleed, tailored shorts or pants. Which answers offyatree's question in another thread.
malk: Yeah, most people wear Gucci belt here, there are fewer people wearing Louis Vuitton belt. And yeah again, I would be one of those turn offs that you (or those that reply to my post in this thread) see on the street but not with a Nudie though.

I have seen italian leather, made in USA belts at Banana republic that have beautiful cognac/light brown/dark brown colors with vintage looking solid brass buckle components. Pretty cheap too..like 50$ Canadian..I would imagine like 30-40$ in the US. I bought one myself (I'll edit in a pic later tonight) it's pretty decent for the price/quality.

Got this handmade belt from an old artisan in my town. I am really satisfied with the quality of the leather and the construction, and now I'm considering the idea of designing something different toghether with him. The guy is like 60 years old and his place is there since the 70's. This is really basic, 3mm thick natural tan leather from Tuscany with a brass buckle:

ALD belts are measured up till the center hole, so 90cm would be 90cm at the center hole...

@dr.house: I'm also a 32 and rock a 80 cm ALD belt with the buckle set at the middle hole but when I'm wearing lower rise cuts such as DJ-501xx that sit on my hips I have to let go one hole. So if you sag or need a bit of room I'd say choose the 85 cm belt.

Tanning works best on natural leather and means sunbathing (and I guess oiling) for some time. The leather gets darker from the sunlight (and the oil).

I've always thought it to be more a right/left handed thing. (I could be wrong but that's just what I think) I remember back in junior high some kid told me I was gay because I put my belt on with the buckle on the left, the way everyone here seems to be wearing it, and that only girls did that. I then proceeded(sp?) to point out how every other person in the room was wearing their belt the same way. It's kind of like how you can't put a sock on the wrong foot.

Does anyone know anything about this denham belt:

http://www.cultizm.com/product_info.php?info=p430_DENHAM-BAND-DDL-BELT---BUCKLE-UP.html (http://www.cultizm.com/product_info.php?info=p430_DENHAM-BAND-DDL-BELT---BUCKLE-UP.html)

Will it look different as it ages? i.e. get darker?

Hi, I was wondering if these two samurai belts were the same belt:

Also, does anyone know if the sugar cane garrison belt will darken in the same way?

I ask because I want a belt as close to the one this dud is wearing and it looks most like the sugar cane belt but with the samurai belt color. Also if anyone knows what kind of shirt and jeans he's wearing please let me know. Kid has pretty cool style:

hmm the belt looks a tad bit skinny for the jeans don't you think? looks like it might be similar to the tanner skinny belt..

The Denham belt is actually a lot bigger then the one Zac is wearing, and judging from the pic of Zac, i would say that the Denham belt is from better quality too ;-)

Yeah I was surprised when my Denham belt arrived, the buckle is huge!

Yes, i had to get used to it too (mostly because i had worn my ALD belt for a year, which has a rather little buckle) but after all it isn't too big or flashy and i'm very, very pleased with the quality. Did you get the brown or black one? Btw, i got it at a Dutch store, where they were a lot cheaper then on Cultizm. Cultizm has them overpriced, same as the Denham coat ;-)

Just bought pig fat in the store (instead of neatsfoot oil) and smeared my natural tandyleatherfactory 1.75" belt in!

Will the brown Denham belt darken as it ages? Is this the type of belt that can be left out in the sun to tan? I thinking of getting one, thanks

I just want a sweet brown leather belt that is going to break in with my SJ's. What would be my best option from these, or does anyone have a better idea?

what do you guys think?
too massive?

I don't know hot about you, but I don't want to walk with extraordinary weight with me. I am not on a trekking walk with equipment. This belt is one of the useless fashion monsters. It would become really annyoning after short time. It looks like a belt for the weight sportsmen on Olympia. I can imagine that your stomache will rebel after an hour of wearing.

^yes what is it 8mm thick?
imo there's no need to be that thick it's just uncomfortbla

Atzec

8-10mm! i´ve never worn a belt that thick, but i guess you´re right.

M!ch
18th September 2009, 13:40
I also came back from the idea that the thicker the belt is, the better.
In the end the belt you tend to wear most is the one that looks and feels good, too thick and heavy is just plain uncomfortable.
Leather quality is imo much more important than just the thickness, that's what makes the belt age beautifully.

how fo you like this one?

it´s made of german saddle leather and supposed to be much lighter irl.

you said it's lighter in real life?
looks very dark. or are you more into coloured belts than in natural ones?

Atzec
18th September 2009, 14:51
^yeah it´s a natural tan belt ( i don´t like colored belts), the one in the pics seems to be freshly oiled.

I'm also in the market for a new belt.
two actually, one in natural and one in black.

Right now i'm considering the SC Garrison belt(a classic imo), a 45RPM or Samurai belt for the natural one.
You guys have any other, or maybe better, suggestions?

For the black one i actually have no clue what to buy, preferably also a plain high quality belt, so maybe a black SC belt....

Pretty plain, square or rectangular with round edges, preferably a bit thicker material.
So not a flimsy thin piece of metal.

Nice, buckle looks great and i kinda like the carved pattern on the sides at first glance.
How's the quality of SDA leather goods in general?
Any Europe stockist that sell this particular one?

No European stockist for that belt from that I know. But there are some shops that carry SDA.
I haven't worn my new SDA belt yet...it still lays in the sun to tan

How does the leather feel like, the one in the link looks a bit roughed out, while i prefer smooth leather.
Could be just how it looks though.

the color of the belt is not even (it's a natural product after all)...the picture represents it very good. but after I applied oil grease on it it wasn't noticable any more. it's rahter hard and unforgiving...but I don't wanna judge before I haven't really worn it.

yeah that's no problem, it will without doubt become much softer with wear.
but if the finish of the leather is a bit rough, it will not smoothen much i fear, so that's why i asked.

Decided to take some pics of my belts. They're both great but I like the Denham one better.

The ALD is thicker but the buckle is smaller. The Denham buckle is HUGE, and the leather is smoother, softer and thinner :-o

Enjoy!
