View Full Version : Patching/Repairing crotch holes

so I got a nudie repair kit...comes with orange thread, baggybjornn denim patch, rivets, buttons, sandpaper.

I really need to take care of the crotch holes in my jeans which have incrementally grown to 1inch wide exactly in the spots where the fruit hang low. They're great to call out girls on staring at your package, when they mention it...but something has got to be done.

Anybody have any links or step by step instructions on how to do it your self reair on these? Like what kind of stitching method, color of thread....I have orange, should I use a blue thread to blend with the denim? This will definately add to the character of the living denim look...but I want to make sure its done right!

What I do with my crotch holes: take a piece of denim, sew it on the outside with orange thread. It's visible, but I have never had any complaints from others wearing those jeans.
The best is doing it with a sewing machine (more strong), I do it that way, but in the past I did it hand-sewn, less strong, but adding a lot of character to your jeans.
Or you can bring your jeans to a tailor for professional patching. In my neighbourhood there's a very good Turkish one (they sew a beautiful big round patch on the seat of my very old Levi's 501xx).
Good luck

I got my crotch reinforced.. It was very close to ripping. I took it to the tailor and she did a great job for only €7,-!

ive had my bbos for a while now, but havent washed them because they have a crotch rip thats about an inch big. I have the nudie repair kit, so should I repair them before I wash them, and if I repair before wash, do I have to do anything to the patch before repair? thanks for the help.

What email address did you contact them at? I'm trying to find their repair kit, or at least the orange thread. Got a terrible rip in a weight bearing point in my jeans and it has messed up the fit/fade.

i'm looking for some advice about repairing my nudies. both of my finns have holes in the crotch. i emailed nudie about a patch for my dry stretch (no reply yet after 3 days), but i'm a bit confused about how to repair my TFDBC.

here are some photos:
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h176/snozepp147/DSCN2601.jpg
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h176/snozepp147/DSCN2599.jpg

as you can see, the hole is pretty small, and the fabric around it isn't very thin yet because they only have about 4 months total wear.

the tricky part is that the hole is right up next to that seam. should i just sew a small patch over it and into the seam? does nudie have DBC repair patches? the hole is just smaller than my pinky finger. any help is always appreciated. thanks.

Nudie doesn't reply to your email and it will take 2 months until you receive your repair kit. I think you get a piece of regular denim, not a piece of DBC denim. I would just take it to a tailor.

thats an easy fix, snozepp. firstly, just sew the hole with a black thread like 2-3times back and forth. secondly, trickier but not too hard, get a patch, definitely bigger than the whole, probably like 5x5cm then start sewing it patiently. also 2-3x back and forth. and you're done! the key is patience and sewing skills. no need to bring it to the tailor imo. i'd fix that in 20 mins as i dont have tailor's hands.

I ride my bike everywhere so the crotch rubs against the seat, causing the crotch to wear out really fast. Ive only had AJDH for about 5 months and today a ripped a big hole in the crotch. I sent an email for a repair patch from nudie but i can't wait that long. Tomorrow I'm going to hand stitch them because I don't have a sewing machine and can't afford the tailor! I think self-repairing them ads more character anyway

Emailed Nudie last night and they emailed me back this morning telling me that some denim and thread is being shipped to me. For the mean time i stitched a temporary fix. I stitched around the rip in a circle so it wouldnt spread if it ripped any more and then i sewed the hole together. I think the round stitching will help since the denim is weakand soft that im repairing. Heres some pictures...

Waar zit die kleermaker? Ik ga in Rotterdam soms naar een Turkse kleermaker met mijn kapotte spijkerbroeken, ook goed naaiwerk, maar ik doe het ook heel graag zelf met eigen naaimachine.

These are my crotch repair pics.
E-mailed nudie, and waited about a month and a bit for the denim patch.
It ripped, and so I got my Mom to help me out and sew a patch in both sides. Pretty good job overall, it's still holding up well today (month later)

So is there an average wait time for the repair kits? Or does it depend on where you live? I know it's been mentioned that it takes 2 months, or just 1 month but I have heard cases of it taking only a week or so. I am getting two massive holes on both legs of my jeans around the crotch area and I'm worried that if I wait for the nudie repair kits and they take a month or so to get here the holes will be too big by then. Does nudie normally send a respose e-mail to signify they have gotten the repair kit request and are shipping it out? Or should I just get some other denim for now and sew it up that way?

Hi guys --- as I mentioned on another thread I bought some Thin Finns from an Australian ebay seller and they ripped with a 4inch tear the second day i wore them. It seems crazy to just throw them away so I want to patch them with nudie denim. Who do I email to ask for a kit? I don't mind paying for it, but I would like the denim to be nudie denim and if possible be a match for colour.

I was very bummed about this, and I guess I should wonder if they are fakes, but I've looked at the stitching and all the details look right. Just the denim is so damned thin!

thanks

evp

Black = Thin Finns, about 2 and a half years
Blue = Grim Tims, about a year

Those are the only jeans I've owned in that time so they've taken a beating.

It's the result of not repairing smaller holes quick enough, my black ones eventually tore from the back pocket to half way up the fly.

Still alive though!

All my Nudies ripped so far, long before i got the desired fade...
SJ dry Japan are the worst, though they fade easy (if you hold them up to a lightsource, you can see thru!!)
RRDS -> cuffed them and of course... the bottoms completely gave out, even honeycombs started to tear...

Also i get holes right beneath my wallet from the jeans sagging and rubbing together : RRDS RRDS ans SJDJ :)

Took my Japanese dry average joe's of two years to get done after a crotch blow. E-mailed nudie, they sent me two patches of the same denim, then took to a tailor to have them patched and reinforced. Wish he was a little bit more symmetrical though :-? I like it however, gives them more character than they had before.

I can't believe they told you they would send you a kit, mine just turned up one day after months of waiting- I'd already taken them to the tailors, went mountain climbing and slipped- hole so big I could put my head through it. Tailors did a perfect job though, dyed the loose threads back to indigo and it's basically an invisible mend.

I prefer to patch the crotch and whole seat together with 2 patches, resulting in a very reinforced piece of jeans. For the repair job I use mostly denim, in the same colour as the jeans, or in a darker colour (is more striking). Those repaired jeans will last forever (I got several 501´s that I repaired more than 10 years ago and are still wearable, never throw away any of my ´lovers´).

Well done, it looks great. Hardly visible from outside and strongly reinforced crotch. Compliments to your tailor and keep on wearing and reparing your jeans for ever and ever, like me.

thanks a lot :) yeah man, i dont throw my lovelies haha. i tried to spread the word to everyone, that strongly suggest to repair their crotch holes instead, cuz i know some people wearing them for 6 months and then throw then cuz theres crotch holes, some people had no idea how to take care of them and no idea where to fix it.... and say nudies has shitty quality.

Nudie informed me that there is a repair shop here in Copenhagen.
So i took my Finns there on friday, and they were ready for pickup saturday afternoon!
