Hi guys/gals! Just wonder if some of you have any cool tattos. I am wondering if I have dreamt it or if it was real, but I think that I have seen some picture of a Nudie-tatto.

Since the other Tattoos? show them! thread has dissapeared, we can best use this one in future.
It's a real pity, because it had lots of nice pics in it, so maybe the guys here with the good stuff would like to repost some of their pics.

Thanks for clearing it up, didn't know you started that thread.
It is really gone though.

When the 1st post is deleted the whole thread seems to disappear, but that's evidently not what happened with this one, it is a shame it's gone though.

I got the other wolf colored in like 3 weeks ago, haven't gotten a chance to take good pics though, it just stopped peeling, and looks presentable again. Damn cold weather. Getting more done as soon as my artist gets back from doing a guest spot in Norway for the month, and I'll definitely post some updates when I take pictures.

Crow, it's really hard to tell in that picture how it looks.

Went to the tattoo shop today and had some more coloring done, next time my backpiece will be completed!
Today he did the indigo flowers, the fins, the Kintaro's eye and some other small bits.
My girl also had more work done on her Japanese sleeve again today, no pics of that yet though.

Yeah I need to get a better picture. I'll work on it, Basically I got more water done and more of the squid done. Then my artist started working on the boat a bit.

Then I also have been managing up two other ideas for more tattoos to continue my arms.

The back piece is looking killer man, way sick. Can't wait to see more.

A tattoo is a decision of a lifetime. I suggest don't get one because of impulse. If you really want one, do spare some time contemplating if it is really what you want in life rather than having a mark on your body for the rest of your life.

CrashTestBrummie

Right, those of you who read the old thread will have seen these pics before, so apologies in advance for that.

I've had some more work done since these pics, but it's been mainly 'filling in' of background space and I don't have any pics of this. I've got two sessions this month (on the 20th, and the 21st!), so will have a lot more to post in a few weeks.

The pic's a bit blurred, but this is my backpiece as it stands at the moment:

http://img65.imageshack.us/img65/3927/dsc01511bg1.jpg

When both sleeves have been done, I'll be getting them linked to the backpiece and getting it extended all down my back, in pretty much the same way as M!ch.

Detail of left sleeve, which will hopefully be done by the summer:

http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/9685/copyofdsc02088xf9.jpg

Inner bicep, right arm:

http://img393.imageshack.us/img393/1331/sleevezh9.jpg

Detail of work being done on left forearm, more has been done since the photo was taken:

http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/6942/dsc01245ar7.jpg

It's kinda difficult to get pics of the sleeve, as there is no single focal point for the camera. This fit pic should give you an idea of what they look like from the back:

Inner right bicep:

http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/1460/dsc00862zn8.jpg

Inner left bicep, to be finished this month:

http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/9186/dsc00861je8.jpg

Samurai detail on left forearm, the warrior himself was done years ago and now my current artist has incorporated him into the sleeve design:

http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/6134/dsc00852gp8.jpg

And outer right arm, the tiger at the top is a cover-up of a dragon tattoo I had done many, many years ago and the hanya (Japanese demon face) was also done a long time ago and 'remixed' for the sleeve:

Yeah M!ch, I'm looking forward to getting more pics up here as work progresses.

Off topic, but going through some of the older photos whilst looking for the pics above made me pretty nostalgic, as I found some pics of my Lot 2000 before the serious wear started

And I agree totally. None of us would rush in to buy a pair of jeans without having done some research on things like the fit, fading properties and so on. With something that's going to become a permanent part of your life, preparation is even more important...

is your whole body all tattooed, crash?

Nah, you've seen most of what's been inked - both arms and upper back make up the majority of the stuff I've got.

Not shown were: Bugs Bunny tattooed on my arse (my nickname amongst my friends is Bugs or Bugsy...the tattoo will be covered when I get the backpiece extended...); a dragon on my left calf; and the badge of my local football team, Birmingham City, on my right calf...

I'll see if I can get some pics of the tattoos on my calves for you...I'm sure you can live without the one elsewhere :-P

By the way, before i put my tattoo i have taken into consideration several factors.

1) Is it what you really want (I asked myself for several years as mine is beyond the sleeve)

2) Research on the design and the artist (finding out what you want and if the artist has the capability to perform the task).

3) Budget

4) Pain

5) How people may view you differently (I live in asia, people with tattoos are mostly viewed as thugs).

Hope it helps.

so right!
pain means gain, at my local tattoo shop there´s a sign that says ´You bet this is gonna hurt!´
and don´t ever try to get it for cheap just because it´s cheaper , choose a style and then do research on artists specialized in that particular style, then pick the one of whom you like the style best.
For big projects with multiple sessions i even find it important to have a certain click with the artist.

I think the last one is a bit important too. Not that you should get something to pleae other people than yourself, but just think about what kind of job youre going to have...

A friend of mine was going to get his neck tattooed, but before he got it his employer told him that he had to cut his hair or else he would get fired. The customers were complaining about his hair :-o Imagine if he had showed up with a tattoo that he wasn't able to cover. And he's not even working at a store, his a mechanic.

Nice colors Ben, they fit really well together and the tiger does look great!

White in tattoos always seems to vanish so quickly, strangely the white in my indigo flowers was very vibrant when it was fresh, after 2 days it had toned down significantly and now it's becoming more vibrant again.

Yeah M!ch, the good white ink tends to do that - the pigment goes in and it looks chalky at first, and then it kinda seems to disappear into the skin a little bit.

Then about two months (approx.) later, it comes back out and stays like that. You can see it on the cherry blossoms on my left arm, although it's subtle, it adds a real depth to the whole work.

Had the last session done on my backpiece last thursday, but i didn't have time to put the pic up before.
Maybe next time when he's going to work on my girl's sleeve again, he'll do some minor retouches on the colours, but officially it's finished.
He added more yellowish orange and bright orange to the finns, tail and the outline of the koi, added some white and some shadow work and some of the main lines were redone to make them sharper and stand out just that bit more.

I would like this:

What do you guys think?

Obviously those of you who aren't from America probably won't be for it, which I can understand. I'm not like, a super proud American or anything, I just think TR is awesome.

If I could interject...

I don't think there's anything wrong with a tattoo of Teddy. What I do have a problem with is where you want him. I don't know that I'd get that picture tattooed at my pant line. You might not regret the picture but you'd probably end up regretting the placement the older you got. My opinion of it, if I were to see something similiar, would be that Teddy's basically saying, "Look what's in my pants!" and I've never really thought that kind of stuff was clever or funny. It always struck me as a lazy, and bad, attempt at being funny.

In closing:
Tattoo of Teddy - Fine, nothing wrong.
Placement of Teddy - Not so good, rethink it.

You could probably have whoever you get the tattoo done by to draw in legs. They shouldn't mind doing it is part of their job, from what I understand of tattooing at least. I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about the fact that the picture's cut off but rather where'd I'd put it.

I've got a question to those who's got tattoos....
What would you do or think if you had to have MRI (magnetic) scans when you had an accident or what?

I'm having a part-time translation job at hospital in London for Japanese patients now and
I have to do safty checks if they have tattoos on thier bodies or not before scanning.
Apparently some inks for tattoos contain metals and it causes serious burn during scanning.

Please don't get me wrong - I'm not against tattooing. Just curious.:roll::roll:

e.g. check this link for reference: http://chemistry.about.com/cs/howthingswork/f/bltattoomri.htm

I got my first tattoo when I was 19 (I'm 30 now) and that was a mistake. It's just a word, near my ankle, it was and it looks pretty stupid.
I was so disgusted by it that I didn't think about tattoos again until last October, thought about it, gathered some ideas, shopped around for the best artist in my area and I finally started an half sleeve last month (from the shoulder down to my elbow) in black&grey, japanese style with a dragon and a snake fighting, cherry blossoms, water, fire and skulls. The second session took place last Tuesday and the third one will be on Wenesday. I already have 6h15 of work and I'm planning on getting a sacred heart on my chest in between sessions for my half sleeve.
This is pretty addicting but I'll settle for these two for the moment although it's pretty hard to resist I got so many ideas! I might get a third one before Summer though...

Yes, it's mainly a pictures book, with vintage pictures of tattoos. It also has some pictures of old tattoo guns, flash and a a little bit of some recent danish artists. It has alot of funny anecdotes, most both in Dansih and English, but sometimes it has pictures of letters and articles only in danish.

It was 500 dkr (= 98 us dollars) which I found to be pretty expensive for a paperback. Its 300 pages and i bought it here: http://www.elounge.com/ , but I dont know how far they ship.

Indeed woody, the placement is absolutely golden, although you've got to probably tolerate a bit more pain in the rib area but def worth it. I've been thinking long and hard over the course of 2-3 years contemplating whether I should get a tattoo and finally puckered up and booked myself in yesterday for a tattoo to be done early next year. I've always been really interested in the japanese tattoo art style. Simplistic designs yet strong bold contrasting and intricate shading.

^ It's a pretty cool design and the colours give it a very oldschool feel.
But what words you'll put in is just as important, i have to admit i'm not a fan of words or writing in tattoos, unless it's something personal that means very much to the wearer, not just some random 'cool' text that you saw someone else wearing.

woody
5th December 2009, 14:12
nah, i want to get 'what makes a man?' not something i have seen randomly and does mean a lot to me... and i love the old-school style as well, i'm just not sure if it suits the placement?

The Big Lebowski: What makes a man, Mr. Lebowski?
The Dude: Dude.
The Big Lebowski: Huh?
The Dude: Uhh... I don't know sir.
The Big Lebowski: Is it being prepared to do the right thing, whatever the cost? Isn't that what makes a man?
The Dude: Hmmm... Sure, that and a pair of testicles.

Vote against,

Too feminine, makes for something of a scene kid tattoo. At least that's the association swallows/sparrows/finches etc. have around where I live.

You should check out some other stuff, I think another bird might be better.

anyway What a WEIRD and crazy people in this world...

I'm planning to get tattoos but I'm very picky, it has to be perfect and I'll need a tattoo artist who's very good at realistic tattoo style (of object) not portraits or whatever.

Is there anyone of you who has his tattoo(s) planned for years? like really put a lot of research in it? : The design, the style (oldschool, realistic, oriental,...) the artist, the colours (black and grey or vivid colours), the location on the body,...?
Let me know, I'm curious!

Should turn out real nice, it's the traditional shape of a Japanese backpiece, mine also goes all the way down to the cheeks.

Yeah, if ya gonna do it then at least do it properly!

He's having to back the original back ink a little more 'traditional', to make it blend in with the rest of the design.

As you can see, the "unpierced" side is currently in the making. Bot sides reach to my back (will post pictures sometime later) and will someday be connected to form a proper collar. Colors will be added to the unpierced side in April, I think. :)

Been a while...ignore the pose () and have a look at the work that's gone into linking the backpiece and sleeves.

The outline on my lower back is taken from one of Kuniyoshi's prints based on Suikoden, the famous Chinese book often called 'The Water Margin' in English. The warrior is Zhang Qing, one of the book's 108 heroes.

The Zhang Qing figure will be sporting a body suit as part of the tattoo, so it will be a backpiece on a man that is part of a backpiece on a man...

Cheers M!ch mate, you see now what I was trying to explain last year, about my vision for the whole back? :-)

It's going to be a body suit now, no doubt about it. From the top of my shoulders to down below my arse cheeks.

Not sure if I'll be able to post pics of my arse when it's been inked, but I'll worry about that closer to the time!

More to come this weekend...

I'm hearing you, loud and clear!

And yeah, the artist knows his shit. We've kinda come up with the ideas for this over the last four years, piece by piece and it's grown organically.

I was thinking of having the warrior having a replica backpiece of my own, if you get my drift, but decided to build on the 'Monkey King' design on the original Japanese print. I lived in China for a while when I was younger, and 'Monkey King' (Chinese: Sun Wukong) was one of my nicknames out there, so it all ties in...
