Almost anything, but no commercial stuff. ;)
From stoner rock to (free)jazz, from (post)punk to experimental electronics and from (underground)hiphop to japnoise..

I listen to everything that is essential. No limitations. People listening just to one kinf of music will never get wise. But I will never listen to hip hop that's always the same shit just with another loop.

I'll try anything once, but it's mainly rock (alternative, hard, punk, 60s, psych...) but really been getting back into the 60s garage band stuff again recently - still sounds really fresh after all those years!

LOL! Hardly true, but funny.

I listen to almost every genre of music, though blue grass, folk, country and the like don't exist in my collection. Within genres I tend to get picky though. For instance, I can't stand Modest Mouse, though they're indie rock heroes.

Lately I've been getting into imports of Sergio Leone scores (a lotta movies that never hit the US), and old 60's and 70's Chambara film scores.

P.S. Jake, you might like some of "Saturday Looks Good To Me" They have that Mando Diao feel of recreating elements of the 60's with modern sensibilities thrown in. Though some of their albulms are uneven.

:!: I know :!:

How will we identify what clique you're a part of (and thus if we should socialize at all) if you wear clothes that shirk the stereotypes of your musical subculture preference?

batman
28th February 2005, 18:31
You wear what you wanna wear....and you listen to what you wanna listen to. :D

Personally, I prefer rock but some techno is good too....and I still wear my Nudies. :D

toszie
28th February 2005, 18:42
Men I think that is really a stupid thing to say, If you don't listen to rock you are not a real nudie-lover...? No it says something about the small world you are thinking in. Nudie is nudie, you like it or not. That has no thing to do with your love for music. It's a bout feeling not about seeing. Are the nudie jeans in some kind of Rock design? Don't think so...

I've seen them quite a few times, and they've always been great (their strangest gig was from Glastonbury one year when they just made noise - which is sometimes good - it was like an 'anti-set' - the Bob Dylan fans booed them all the way through...).

They put on a great show in Glasgow recently, White Cross was amazing, and the stuff off the new album sounded really good. Catch them if you can.

The new single will be "Two More Years".

From their website:

For those of you outside the UK, you can listen online using this URL:

Okay, well, the official Nudies soundtrack is here:

http://www.nudiesrodeotailor.com/store01.html

That's a good site for everyone to brush up on the Russian-born American tailor whose name our jeans bear.

He designed his Nudie suits for some of my favorite bands/performers:

The Flying Burrito Brothers and Gram Parsons
(marijuana-embroidered Nudie suits)

Elvis Presley (the $10,000 suit)

Hank Williams

I always thought that Nudie Jeans ought to do some fantastic embroidered/sequined jeans a la Nudie (birds, pot leaves, roses, dinosaurs)-----instead of the ugly-ass embroidery on the back of some of their shirts

I hate to blatantly advertise, but you guys who are into Isis might like my band, Back When. www.myspace.com/backwhen

As for my musical tastes:

Cult of Luna
Air
Radiohead
Angels of Light
Philip Glass
Blood Brothers
Sigur Ros
Wolfmother
Led Zeppelin
Melvins

That Iron and Wine M&M commercial was a cover of "Such Great Heights" by The Postal Service and was also in the movie Garden State.

Denimdestroyedmylife

Garden State was an awful movie, IMO. Not a Postal Service fan, either. Don't like M&M's for that matter. Iron & Wine are aiiiight. Would rather listen to Bert Jansch or Gary Higgins.

I miss the lo-fi Devendra. I think a proper recording studio makes him sound like he's being intentionally weird-----a bit of a turn off to me. I give him props as a tastemaker-------but I don't think he has transcended his influences. And I blame him for the proliferation of weird beards.

Thorns
26th April 2006, 08:38
Epi, you'll love it... its everything you've ever wanted from Tool and a little more. Major epic and religious overtones (i.e. eulogy) but way more instrumentally technical... I don't know how to describe it, but I don't think Maynard was born with a disappointing bone in his body. Just listen to the thunder in the background of the title track.

Thank you for the info. :) I am really curious. You should check out the polish band Riveside (www.riverside.art.pl). They have so much emotions and feelings and sound like a mix between Tool, Pink Floyd, Opeth and Anathema but have of course their own style you will always recognize. I am sure that this band will be big in future.

I took a quick listen to riverside. I hear a lot of Dream Theatre in them actually, very prog. My only critique may be their instruments. I think they need to grow a little as a band and get their sound a little tighter. As it goes, if they got a good producer for a next album that problem could be fixed fairly quickly.
