Any bets welcome - so who's gonna bring home the CUP ?

And Belgium.....euh ....not even selected... :?

i guess you mean, not able to qualify themselfs

i'm not sure holland will make it trough the first three games(unfortunatly)

either brasil(most likely) or italy will win the worldcup

I was hoping Sweden to do a good year and considering their group they actually would be able to make it to the finals but now they are screwed. The Swedish goalie is out and some other top players also have or have had injuries. It's gonna take a miracle.....or hopefully Henrik Larsson is the miracle.

I would agree with you if they weren't in the same group as Sweden.

However, if T&T advance and Sweden doesn't I sure wish them a great World Cup. They're amazing.....this being their first WC ever!! What a goalie!!

Epilogue
15th June 2006, 21:59
Tobe: You see, though I hate soccer, I was right that Germany would be much better, so I was right with everythin and I have no idea why you should be ironic. It's not my fault the losers from Germany did not make 100% chances. I was completely right.

PS: I correct myself. The losers from Germany and Poland (beacause Klose and Podolski have also a polish passport)

Tob
16th June 2006, 00:26
wow epilogue you are quite narrowminded and you take everything as an offense.
on topic: Poland is actually a pretty decent team so it wasnt a walkover. Plus germany is not that good to be honest (easy poule and relatively easier walk to semi finals probably), the game was quite promosing at the start. there were some nice chances but the german defense is not that good ! Can't wait to see how germany performs against a good european country.

quit talking about things you don't know... so you shouldn't post in the football thread, because poland has a team that could have make it to the next round but the polish trainer sucks. also ecuador is pretty good, they've just been underestimated.

and jesus.... I didn't want to hurt your feelings, so calm down and stop crying.

Oh oh oh oh.... It's about soccer and allready we have arguments and namecalling against eachother...

That's what I don't like about the game. It can cause so much anger, like them dumb narrow-minded hooligans. Come on! It is about a game with 22 guys running for a ball, why would you start a fight about that!?

Well... Sweden (Nudie-land) won yesterday. That's what i've seen of it.

I only thought soccer was used in the US but I guess the Australians use it as well.

I like football better. I think NFL ought to change American Football to American Rugby......that would be a better name. It's not very often they use their foot in American football. Btw, most people who play soccer in the US calls it football anyway.

Soccer, to close to the Swedish word socker, which is sugar.

Anyway, either one is okay I guess. As long as people continue playing the same game.

nudeandlewd
27th June 2006, 11:33
First of all the term 'soccer' was actually coined in England as a slang term for football - like rugby is sometimes called rugger. If you know any Englishman that gets offended by saying soccer then they need a history lesson.

-Yes, we drive on the 'wrong' side of the road - cool huh!
-Our currency is stronger than the Euro.
-And thats right, most people in the UK love Europe but don't really want to be part of Europe , we see it as a nice place to visit on holiday and they make great jeans there

As for tea, i'm on my fourth cup today.

First of all - Heads up for Australia ! You might not have won the game - but you sure did win our hearts !

I know - it might sound pathetic - but everybody I know agreed that you?d deserved to make it to the next round - and not those crappy playing Italiens....

In the same way - I have to speak up and finally be the first to say this - but England plays crap as well !

Nice goal Mr. B - but other than that - not much glamour !

And - I hope somebody agrees with me - a couple hours and we?ll be seeing the guys from Ghana play the game of their live----And I sure cross my fingers ...

OLE 8)
However - there were a view ref decisions that are questionable - but winning a game should not depend on one man and a whistle ....you still have 90 minutes to prove yourself and to make a goal - the only occasion that was not the case was Australia - Italy.....

i don't give a fu*k who wins the tournament(not entirely true):

hate the french(they think so big of themselfs(that henry dude oh my what a fu*ker he is, so excelent in playing soccer but such a wrong personality))

the germans, yeah well the germans if you knew me you would know that i don't need to say anything about them......
however they do play the best soccer so for soccer it would be best that they won it(what am i saying i got a sunstroke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).

portugal they can't play soccer, so no option

oh and finaly but not least the catenacio dudes, spaghetti people, those musolinni guys with all their scandals and people throwing themselfs out of windows and all that stuff. also play anti-soccer so don't earn to win imo but they play now for pesotto(that guy who jumped out of a window) i guess that could trigger the italians to get superpower maybey that could help them to win the (europian)tournament........

it's all just:

Seconded! "Hate" is a very strong word. And I really can't understand how one can "hate" an entire nation. People like KillBill need to take their head out of their own arse. If everybody thought like that we'd go back to pre 1914.

its kind of ignorant to have that view as well.

Even if you forget about histroy (like we as a younger generation should), there is stillthe fact that the germans sing their "ohnoe holland fahren wir zu berlin" or whatever even in games where holland doesnt play lol. That is really sympathetic no ?

there is stillthe fact that the germans sing their "ohnoe holland fahren wir zu berlin" or whatever even in games where holland doesnt play lol. That is really sympathetic no ?

dude, i know there have been lots of resentments from both sides. over here, people still haven't forgotten about the "oranje Llama" Frank Reijkard, cause what he did sums up quite clearly how a lot of dutch people think and feel about germans. but if we would start charging up anything that german and dutch fans sing or say about each other, it would lead us nowhere. one is as bad as the other, e.g.:

http://www.kassusa.nl/weblog/fotos/duitsehelm.jpg

after all it's just football. plus i do know quite a few people who regret that holland left the tournament. me too, i think they deserved to get through cause in that last game against portugal, they were the better team (imho).

my whole point is: it scares me to hear people saying "i hate the french, i hate the dutch, i hate... whatever". it's not about political correctness but about the fact, that hating a whole nation is quite absurd. you could hate people, your neighbour or anyone else you know personally. but not a whole country.

it's just like their attitude that makes me feel sick sometimes and offcourse i do not mean a whole country, please do read between the lines(i'm sorry what a stupid thing to think that i did...).

lol, ok lets be careful about generalizing now.

I guess there are stupid people in every group, lets keep it at that. I have contact with a lot of germans and most of the times when i make fun of them it is in good spirit. I visited a festival in germany when sweden-germany was broadcasted and i was the only one cheering for sweden but no one seemed to care and it was a great atmosphere (hmm maybe because sweden lost). I mean, its a game, if you cant have a little fun, you must be retarded. The reason why i reacted to you because you condemned only the dutch in the ivalry that exists between the supporters of the german and dutch teams.

i think the germans are gonna loose the way we(the dutch team) allways loose, play the best soccer and because they let the italians slip and they make a goal.
only one time than it's 1-0 for italy, let them slip two times? simple than it's gonna be 2-0.

We lost against the most metrosexual team... we lost against guys with girl names like andrea or simone...

this can't be true

That was the most fabulous two last OT minutes I've ever seen!

Germany had a great first half but at the end I think they were just waiting and wishing for a shoot out.....in which they would have won.

Italy definitely knew they had to score before OT ended or they would loose.

Awesome game! The referee should get a lot of credit....the best referee so far!

:D :D :D

I had to pop open a bottle of '97 Barolo tonight in honor of Italy.

Anyway, I believe and hope that France will beat Portugal and head for the final match against Italy.

My prediction for the final is that Italy will win and become the new champions.

Cheers!

I still can't believe that some guys like the Italien players...they're such Sissies...always pretending to be fouled...rolling around and waiting for the ref to buy into their crap...or maybe he was alrready bought - like the other refs in Italy...

So Beatle is sad today...not because we've lost - we've played a great worldcup !!! - But that we've lost against those lousy wheeners...

So here it goes ! BRAVO - Klinsmaenner !!

Now I make my bet on Portugal - great young team !

i'm sure he does, but all the things he says about the italians you can say the exact same thing about portugal too, well not the exact same thing times two at least :o

beatle have you ever, ever seen figo rolling around???
and deco? and ronaldo?

at least the italians realy can play soccer, they don't show it often but still.
portugal can't play soccer.
actualy they can play, some people call it acting...

anyway great tournament for germany you guys played great soccer especialy in the first round but it's time to go home. germany was beaten fair and square by the italians.

The difference between the Italians and the Portugese is that the Italians knows HOW TO act. If they get touched on the face they act like they got a punch in the face....that is good acting. On the other hand, the Portugese make up their own fouls. If someone steps on their foot they act like they got kicked in the stomach. Therefore, Italy has a much better football team.

You can't say that the referee at the GER-ITA match was bought. He was the best referee I've seen so far in the world cup. He only had like one or two wrong calls but that is really good.

What's up with the Portugese players with only one name. Is that their first or last name? Do some people in Portugal only have one name or are they just trying to be special?

I don't know......this is a really hard call. Of course France is strong with Zidane, Ribery, Henry, etc. but Italy are also very strong with Lippi, Buffon, Totti, del Piero, etc.

I would say Italy has the better coach.

Both teams are very determined to win with players on both sides playing for the last time.

You're right otherwise you don't end up playing the worldcup finals...

But France has alot players whom already won the cup 8 years ago( Zidane, Henry,Trezeguet, Thuram, Barth?s)...., and I think that at this stage this might be very important...

Anyway, we'll see, may the best win!!

Still hoping it will be France

Both teams played well and any of the two teams could have won up until Zidane's stupid foul. After that it was all Italy and after Zidane's foul, France did definitely not deserve to win. I am happy Italy won. Zidane could have made this the best exit for his career with a second gold.....instead he chose to be remembered as an idiot who denied France their gold.

Have you seen the news in France, I don't think Zidane will be remembered as an idiot....Everybody knows that without him France wouldn't have been playing the final...

He makes me think of Michael Jordan during his last finals( against the Utah Jazz), he also threw some"great" punches.... :P :P

at the end of the day italy need to win this world cup, and this is because of the match fixing problems they got in italy. And what zidane did, surely materazi said something really bad that made zidane blew his head off like a bull.

however he shouldv stayed calm during the last minutes of the 2nd extra time. At the end of the day, zidane is a true legend, he will be remembered from the likes of pele and maradona, he is a true master piece, and very sad to lose such a player who will end his career.

congratulations for italy, and hardluck to france

peace up to zidane !!

Yes, his career will be heroic but he will definitely not be cheered for his final exit. Even French news call him a disappointment. I feel sorry for Ribery being let down by his captain in the last minutes. Ribery deserved to win.

I live in Belgium, speak French and watched all the French news....2 things were said :firstly, wrong reaction and secondly " MERCI ZIZOU"....

But you're are right, the way he ended his last match is a big disappointment, but shows he isn't a machine , but only human....
